Testimonial Thursday

If it's Thursday, it must be time for another testimonial from one of our students.  Today's comes from Kyle from Michigan, who writes, "Everything was perfect.  The American School is a great way to help kids with credits or classes that they need.  I found it very helpful and learned a lot."  We thank Kyle for those kind words and wish to thank all of our Independent Study students who are taking courses with us this year.  We know that you have lots of credit recovery options, but we appreciate the fact that you and your guidance counselor chose the American School to help you graduate on time with your class.  We are happy to be of service to you!

American School To Attend THSC Convention

If you've been reading this blog or our Facebook and Twitter pages, then you know we've been promoting our appearances at several conventions around the country.  Normally we do this a week or two in advance, but earlier today we received some big news and wanted to share it with you right away.  For the first time, the American School will exhibit at the THSC Convention this August in The Woodlands, Texas.  We are very excited to attend, and we look forward to sharing information about our courses and accredited high school diploma programs with those who will attend this convention in the great state of Texas.  Keep checking this blog often to see where else we're headed this summer!

Today’s Birthday: Mark Zuckerberg

It's May 14, and Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, turns 29 years old today.  His birthday is a great reminder to like our Facebook page, but if you prefer Twitter, you can follow us on our Twitter page instead.  We update both pages several times a day with important information about what's happening here at the American School as well as in the world of education in general.  Check them out.  We'd love to have you like us and follow us on our social media sites!

American School to Attend Teach Them Diligently Convention in Nashville

Fresh off appearances in Spartanburg and Harrisburg in the past couple weeks, the American School is on the road again this weekend.  We'll be attending the Teach Them Diligently Convention at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee.  Stop by booth 625 on Thursday, May 16, from 6-9 p.m.; on Friday, May 17, from 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m.; and on Saturday, May 18, from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. and visit with our representative.  We'll have brochures, enrollment applications, fun freebies and much more.  Good thing we have a backstock of all those items because next week we're on the road again.  Check back next Monday to learn where we'll be spending Memorial Day weekend.

De’Borah Garner Visits the American School

De'Borah Garner, a 2004 graduate of the American School and most recently a contestant on NBC's "The Voice" is visiting the American School today.  We enjoy meeting our students and graduates in person, especially those like De'Borah who have gone on to have great success after earning their diplomas.  Her latest single, "Coming Out Looking Good" is now available for purchase on iTunes, and, in honor of her coming out to see us today, we'll try to post some pictures of De'Borah and our staff looking good soon!

Testimonial Thursday

Time for a quick testimonial and study hint from one of our students.  This one comes from Tamara in Vermont, who writes, "I found that taking the self-check tests repeatedly until I knew all the answers was a great help.  The entire program really worked for me."  We thank Tamara for her kind words and for her great study hint.  We've found that our students do much better on their unit exams when they complete the self-check tests that precede them.  Keep that hint in mind as you work toward your diploma!

National Portrait Gallery to Open Martin Luther King Jr. Exhibit

From time to time, this blog mentions educational opportunities in various parts of the country.  These educational opportunities are designed to enhance the American School's already outstanding curriculum.  Museums are often the sites of these educational opportunities, and one could argue that there is no better museum system than the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.  The Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery will open a new exhibit on the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on June 28, and if you're in the nation's capital this summer, it might be worth a visit, especially if you are taking our Speech course.  That's because Dr. King's orations are highlighted in that course.  We will do our best to post more educational opportunities in this blog and on our Facebook page in the weeks and months ahead.

Travis Pastrana Earns First Pole

American School graduate Travis Pastrana earned his first Nationwide Series pole this past weekend, and he did it at one of the most famous tracks in Nascar, Talladega Superspeedway.  Unfortunately, Travis's good starting position in the race didn't guarantee him a good finish, as an accident left him in 36th place for the race.  He currently sits in 15th place in the overall season standings and will return to action this Friday night at Darlington.

American School to Attend CHAP Convention

The American School is proud to be making its debut appearance at the CHAP Homeschool Convention this weekend in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  We invite you to stop by booth 301 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex on Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.  As usual, we'll have plenty of information packets, enrollment applications and promotional items for everyone who stops by.  We had great success at our convention in Spartanburg last weekend, and we expect to have similar success this weekend in Harrisburg!

American School Attends USDLA National Conference

The American School recently attended the USDLA National Conference in St. Louis.  This was a great opportunity for us to meet other members of the United States Distance Learning Association and to sponsor an outstanding event.  As leaders in distance education for more than a century, we enjoy meeting and sharing ideas with some of the best and brightest minds in the field.  What we learn at conferences like this will help us become an even better school in the years ahead!
