American School Accreditation Team Visit Concludes

As mentioned in yesterday's blog, the American School is hosting an accreditation team this week.  Their visit concludes today, and over the past two days, they have enjoyed seeing the building, meeting employees, and learning how the school operates on a daily basis.  During a meeting earlier this morning, one of the members of the accreditation team said that accreditation offers a school a chance for transformation but that renewal must come from the inside.  In other words, the accreditation team consists of outside individuals who are experts in education but do not work at the school on a daily basis.  They can offer recommendations and ideas to make the school better, but ultimately the school will be renewed if the inside individuals, those who work at the school on a daily basis, put their ideas into practice.  That thought is exactly what the American School will try to do after we receive the final report from the accreditation team later this year.  The end result is that our students will attend an ever-improving American School.  Enroll today if you would like to be among the first students to benefit from this accreditation visit.

American School Welcomes Accreditation Team

Today and tomorrow the American School is welcoming an accreditation team for an on-site visit.  We take our accreditation very seriously, which is why so many staff members have worked diligently to ensure that this week's visit goes smoothly.  Going through any accreditation process is a great opportunity not only to look back at the accomplishments that have taken place during the most recent accreditation period but also to set goals for the upcoming accreditation period.  As always, the American School puts the needs of our students first.  We look forward to sharing the results of this accreditation visit when they become available later this year.  In the meantime, visit our Accreditations and Affiliations page for more information on some of the organizations to which we have ties.

Today’s Birthday: Tim Tebow

It's August 14, and Tim Tebow of the New England Patriots turns 26 years old today.  He won the 2007 Heisman Trophy while at the University of Florida and was also part of two national championship teams for the Gators.  In his NFL career, he led the Denver Broncos to the playoffs in 2011 before being traded to the New York Jets prior to last season.  Besides all of those accomplishments, Tim Tebow has another title: homeschooler.  If you are an American School student who is also an athlete, be sure to check with your state to see if you are eligible to play for your local high school just like Tim Tebow did when he was younger.  You may not even be aware of the possibility of adding athletic competition to the outstanding education you are receiving as an American School student.

Anna Tatishvili Preps for U.S. Open

The U.S. Open tennis tournament is a couple weeks away, and American School graduate Anna Tatishvili is looking forward to duplicating or improving upon her fourth round finish in last year's event.  After a difficult spring and summer, Anna showed she is on the right track by giving 16th-seeded Maria Kirilenko a very difficult match yesterday in the first round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, losing 4-6, 7-6, 7-6.  We will keep you updated on her progress in the U.S. Open after the year's final Grand Slam event begins on August 26 in New York City.

American School Banner Flies in Lansing

Many times before, this blog has talked about how proud we are to include the word "American" in our name and how we are happy to serve students in all 50 states.  In fact, we're even internationally relevant because we have students in more than 65 countries around the world.  At the same time, we have been proud to call Lansing, Illinois our home since 1996, and we are happy to participate in Lansing's banner program this summer.  If you live near the American School or just passing through town, you might notice that Lansing has banners on street poles up and down Ridge Road and up and down Torrence Avenue.  The banners feature Lansing's logo along with the logo of a business headquartered in Lansing.  Our banner is located on the east side of the street at the intersection of Torrence Avenue and Thornton-Lansing Road, just about a mile away from our office.  Be sure to look for it if you're in town, and if you are, just go a little bit farther north and stop by our office.  We'd love to meet you in person and tell you more about our school!

Transcript Release Form Available

One of the frequently asked questions we receive from our students and graduates is how they can have an official transcript sent to them or the college or university of their choice.  The answer is simple.  Just print our new transcript release form, follow the directions on it, send it to us, and we will do the rest.  We are happy to provide this service to our students and hope that this new form will make the process of requesting and receiving transcripts much easier for our students and graduates.

Testimonial Thursday

It's Thursday, and today's testimonial comes from Christina from Illinois, who writes, "The service of the instructors was very helpful because they congratulated me on the tests I completed well and told me what I needed to work on or study more on other exams."  Indeed, our instructors do give personalized feedback on every exam they grade.  It's part of our Caring Student Service and our willingness to help all of our students do their very best on their exams.  Enroll today and discover all of the benefits of being an American School student for yourself.

Today’s Birthday: Don Larsen

It's August 7, and Don Larsen turns 84 years old today.  He threw a perfect game for the New York Yankees in the 1956 World Series, a feat that hasn't been duplicated in any World Series game since.  All of us at the American School like it when our students have perfect exams, but we know that isn't always possible.  That's why our instructors are always available to assist you in a variety of ways.  You can call them during regular business hours, write to them, or email them using the departmental email addresses found in the Online Student Center.  Either way, we promise to reply as quickly as possible so that you can do your best on all future exams.
