Today’s Special Occasion: Board of Trustees Meeting

It's June 16, and on the eve of our annual Scholarship Committee meeting, members of our Board of Trustees and our consultants, some of whom are not with us on a daily basis, are in the building helping us plan for our future.  We are grateful for their expertise and support and look forward to implementing many of their ideas in the months and years to come.

Flashback Friday

We haven't travelled back in time in a little while, so let's take a look at what was happening at the American School on this date in 1970.  The front page describes our students as industrious, foresighted and knowledgeable, and those characteristics haven't changed in the last 44 years.  Something else that is still around 44 years later is our scholarship program, which is mentioned on the front page of the newsletter and then discussed in further detail on the second page we posted.  The number of scholarships and the amount of the awards have changed, but we are still proud to award post-secondary scholarships to some of our industrious, foresighted and knowledgeable graduates.  We're holding this year's scholarship meeting on Tuesday, June 17, and we're looking forward to profiling them in the July-August All American newsletter.

Today’s Special Occasion: The World Cup

It's June 12, and today the World Cup soccer tournament kicks off in Brazil.  Some say it's the biggest sporting event in the world, and no doubt billions of people will follow the action in the weeks to come.  The World Cup, which happens every four years, reminds us that we have students in more than 65 countries around the world.  Even though we are proud to have the word "American" in our name, we're truly an internationally relevant school and are happy to provide accredited high school courses for anyone anywhere.  Enroll today and we can help you reach all of your educational goals!

American School to Attend WHO Convention

Yesterday we told you about one of our west coast conventions this weekend, and today we're telling you about the other.  In addition to being in California this weekend, we'll be a little farther north–Puyallup, Washington, to be exact–for the annual Washington Homeschool Organization Convention at the Washington State Fairgrounds.  You can find us in booth 407 on Friday, June 13, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Saturday, June 14, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.  As usual, we'll have plenty of enrollment information and cool giveaways for everyone who visits us.  This is the third year we've attended this event, and we've enjoyed it so much that it's become an annual event for us.  We hope to see you there!

Today’s Anniversary: D-Day

It's June 6, and on this date in 1944, Allied forces invaded Normandy, France in a military offensive that turned the tide of World War 2.  This day is commonly known as D-Day, and on the 70th anniversary of this milestone in American history, we invite you to visit the Army's D-Day page and the National D-Day Memorial page and remember those who served, especially those who gave their lives, to protect freedom.

Testimonial Thursday

It's the first Thursday in June, so let's hear from one of our satisfied students.  Layan, who lives half a world away in Saudi Arabia, writes, "The study guides, textbooks, instruction, etc. were all very clear and understandable.  The information taught was very easy to comprehend but sophisticated at the same time.  Learning with the American School is not only informative, but also very fun!"  We thank Layan for those words which prove that the American School is an internationally relevant distance learning high school.  We do our best to provide a wide variety of courses in both paper-based and online formats, and we'll be adding more courses as well as an online high school diploma program later this year.  No matter where you live, either in Saudi Arabia or right across the street from our offices, now is a great time to become our student.  Enroll today!

Summer School Courses Available

Now that the school year is winding down or is over altogether, we've been getting an influx of calls and emails from people asking us if we have summer school courses available.  The answer is a resounding yes!  Our Independent Study Program provides individual courses for credit recovery or enrichment purposes not only during the summer but throughout the entire year as well.  Students can enroll anytime and study anywhere as they earn valuable credits that will help them receive their diplomas from their resident schools.  We work with thousands of schools across the country and are happy to be of service to them and their students, whether they enroll for summer school or not.

American School to Attend HEAV Convention

The American School is proud to attend the Home Educators Association of Virginia Convention this weekend at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.  Attendees are invited to stop by booth 607 from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, June 5; from 9:30 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, June 6; and from 9:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 7.  We've attended the HEAV Convention for several years now, and it's one of our busiest expos of the year.  Students and parents will be excited to learn about our latest course offerings, take home an enrollment application, and maybe even grab our latest promotional item (which was a huge hit at the FPEA Convention we attended a couple weeks ago).  We look forward to seeing you there!
