American School Celebrates College Colors Day

Today American School is joining with schools and businesses across the country to celebrate College Colors Day in celebration of the first weekend of college football games.  Around the building this morning we've seen our employees wearing the colors of Calumet College of St. Joseph, Eastern Illinois, Notre Dame, Purdue and Trinity Christian, just to name a few.  Yesterday's blog featured the new All American newsletter in which we listed just some of the many colleges and universities that accepted American School students in 2014.  If you're an American School graduate and are wearing the colors of a school on that list, let us know!

New All American Newsletter Coming Soon

We have just four days to get the July-August All American newsletter on our web site before the month ends, but we intend to do just that.  We think that you'll find this issue to be well worth the wait.  This All American will contain profiles of this year's scholarship winners, so you'll get to meet 18 outstanding graduates who are having success at colleges and universities across the country.  And speaking of colleges, we'll also publish a list of colleges and universities which have accepted American School graduates in the past year.  Please note that this list is not exhaustive, so don't panic if you don't see the college of your choice on the list.  You can check with the school of your choice to see how its admissions requirements compare with our course of study and then let us know if you would like adjustments made to your course of study.  In addition, our school counselor is happy to answer any questions you have about the college admissions process.  Thank you for your patience while we put the finishing touches on the newsletter.  We hope you'll enjoy the finished product when it becomes available in a few days.

American School Welcomes Group of Homeschool Parents

Earlier today we had the pleasure of meeting several parents and educators from a local homeschooling group.  They stopped by our office to discuss their students' courses for the upcoming academic year and invited us to speak to other members of their group in the near future.  Deciding to join a homeschooling group or co-op is entirely up to you, but please be aware that, whether you're a member of such a group or not, you are always welcome to come see us in person if you live near Chicago or plan to be in the area.   We love meeting students, parents and graduates and will listen to what you like about us and what you think we can do better.

Testimonial Thursday (Special Edition)

Many of you know that on select Thursdays this blog offers testimonials from American School students or graduates.  Many of those comments come to us courtesy of surveys and reaction sheets that students send to us after completing a course.  Today's testimonial, however, comes from someone who stopped by our booth at the THSC Southwest Convention and Family Conference last month in The Woodlands, Texas.  After meeting with American School President Gary R. Masterton, Susan emailed us earlier this week, and what follows in the next paragraph are her exact words.

"I had no idea that I would put a face with the high school that I graduated from over 30 years ago.  I had a great experience with American School.  I had been enrolled in a private schol and was a freshman, but it was not accredited and so I started over at the age of 15 when I enrolled in American School.  I received my diploma shortly after I turned 17.  I worked a year to pay for college and enrolled in the fall of 1984.  I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in consumer economics in the fall of 1988.  I have been a public school administrator since 1990.  I have told many people about American School and will continue to do so.  I know this will seem hard to believe, but I still have my textbook on how to repair household items.  It really came in handy over the years.  Again, it was a pleasure meeting you and I know American School will continue to help students be successful in life."

We thank Susan for stopping by our booth and for expressing those sentiments.  Normally at conventions we meet prospective students and their families, but it's beneficial for us to meet current or past students as well so that we can hear first-hand what we do well and what needs improvement.  We want all of our current and future students to have the same feeling about us as Susan does three decades after graduating.  Enroll today and we'll do our best to ensure you're as successful in life as she is.
