Today’s Anniversary: The Magic Flute

It's September 30, and on this date in 1791, Mozart's last opera, The Magic Flute, was performed for the very first time.  Over the years we've had many students, parents and school officials ask us if we had any music courses in our curriculum, and for a long time we didn't.  Courses like band or choir are virtually impossible for us to offer, and we never could find a suitable paper-based music appreciation course for our students.  That all changed in the past couple years with the introduction of our online Music Appreciation course which introduces students to centuries of different musical styles.  They might even hear magical flutes as they work toward their accredited high school diplomas.  If you want to join them and take Music Appreciation or any of our other online learning offerings, enroll today!

Method Test Prep Monday (PSAT Week Edition)

We've done Method Test Prep Mondays on a fairly regular basis ever since we began to offer their ACT and SAT prep courses, but Method Test Prep can also help you prepare for the PSAT.  In fact, Method Test Prep is having PSAT Week starting October 1.  Taking the PSAT can be valuable preparation for taking the SAT, so we invite you to look at Method Test Prep's offerings this week and see if any of them interest you.

Today’s Anniversary: The Judiciary Act of 1789

It's September 24, and on this date in 1789, Congress passed the Judiciary Act of 1789, which created the office of Attorney General, designed the federal judicial system, and made provisions to establish the United States Supreme Court.  American School offers a pair of courses that can give you more insight on the inner workings of government and the legal system.  We offer Social Civics in online and paper-based formats, and we offer Business Law in a paper-based format.  Taking one or both of them will make you a more informed citizen and bring you one or two steps closer toward your accredited high school diploma!

Today’s Special Occasion: First Day of Autumn

It's September 22, and today is the first day of autumn.  Some people correctly associated autumn with football, apples, pumpkins and falling temperatures, but there is something else associated with fall: the first day of school.  Although we accept enrollments year-round, many students choose to begin their American School studies in the fall so that they can maintain a traditional school year schedule.  It's not too late for you to join them.  Enroll today and make this an autumn to remember.

Latest Update on Online Enrollment Applications

Earlier this week we blogged about difficulties we noticed with the online enrollment application.  After days of extensive testing, we were able to identify the source of the problem, which was isolated to two specific areas of the high school diploma program application and how information in those areas was transmitted to the payment portion of the application.  We believe we have corrected the problem, and you should be able to enroll without a problem now.  If you tried to enroll in the past week, please know how much we appreciate your patience and willingness to become our student.  Our admissions department attempted to contact you when we received your application so that you could make your down payment and officially become our student.  Also, please know that at no time was your personal information compromised.  The glitch involved how information was sent from one site to another and was not caused by hacking or any other malicious act.  Thank you once again for enrolling.  We are happy to have you as our students.
