Update on Online Enrollment Applications

Yesterday morning, after receiving a handful of calls and emails from prospective students and parents and doing several rounds of internal testing ourselves, we discovered that students using any of our online enrollment applications can complete an enrollment application in full without a problem, but when the "submit application" button is pressed, they receive an error message indicating the application is not completed in full even though it is.  We are working to identify the source of the problem and fix it, and we are hopeful that the problem will be fixed by tomorrow.  In the meantime, please know that any time you press the "submit application" button, we receive your application and you're on your way to becoming our student.  You just can't advance to the payment portion of the enrollment process at this time.  Our admissions department receives these applications right after they are submitted and is contacting applicants to receive payment information and get them formally enrolled as quickly as possible.  Thank you for your patience, and please know how much we look forward to officially having you as our student.

Today’s Anniversary: American School Blogger

It's September 15, and on this date in 1998, the person who regularly writes this blog started at American School.  As you can guess, a lot has happened in the last 16 years.  For one thing, this blog didn't exist back then.  Neither did the Online Student Center and Online Counselor Office, our online courses and online exams, or our Facebook and Twitter pages.  If this very web site even existed back then, it was in its very early stages and definitely looks nothing like it does today.  As you can see, technology has played a huge role in making American School the school it is today, but some things haven't changed in the past 16 years.  We continue to offer a wide variety of paper-based courses and have no plans to change that and go entirely online because we know some students prefer to learn on paper while others prefer to learn online.  It's our job to deliver courses in ways that give students the best chance for success.  In addition, we have a caring staff which is dedicated to helping students learn efficiently, whether their job is to enroll students, grade exams, send more supplies and books, handle billing inquiries, or take care of any of the other responsibilities entrusted to employees throughout the building.  We still keep our tuition to an absolute minimum and do our best to ensure that no student is denied the opportunity to receive a high school education because of financial issues.  And finally, we continue to take our accreditation very seriously and are now accredited by three reputable accrediting bodies.  All of us, whether we've been employed by American School for 16 days, 16 months, 16 years or even longer than that as have many of our employees, look forward to serving you after you enroll and become our student.

American School Remembers September 11, 2001

Today American School is remembering the events of September 11, 2001, and especially those who lost their lives in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania on that day.  Each day we are proud to have the word "American" in our name, but that is especially the case on days when we recall our nation's constant commitment to freedom that sometimes comes at a great cost.

Ryan Hartman Rated #2 Chicago Blackhawks Prospect by THN

Former American School student Ryan Hartman is listed as the Chicago Blackhawks' #2 prospect in The Hockey News' annual yearbook on sale on newsstands throughout the United States and Canada.  Last season, playing primarily for the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League, Ryan scored 25 goals and had 53 points in 52 games.  He also played nine games for the Rockford Ice Hogs of the American Hockey League and tallied four goals and seven points in those contests and spent time as a member of the United States' Under-20 national team, where he scored two goals and had four points in five games.  This season Ryan is expected to be one of the Ice Hogs' best players and is on track to join the Blackhawks full-time in 2015-2016.  We wish Ryan the best as he strives to reach all of his professional goals.

American School Technology Update

Technology is normally a wonderful thing, but, as we all know, sometimes it doesn't work the way we wish it would.  Over the weekend our Online Student Center and Online Counselor Office were off-line.  The cause of that outage has been identified, and steps are being taken to ensure it doesn't happen again.  Meanwhile, we did not have internet or email access in our office for parts of yesterday and today due to a system upgrade.  Now that everything is back to normal, we are catching up with online courses, online exams and replying to emails that were sent while we were off-line.  Thank you for your patience while we catch up.  We are confident this upgrade will allow us to bring you additional online learning offerings and the kind of caring student service you've come to expect from us.

Method Test Prep Monday (Special Edition)

We've done Method Test Prep Mondays before, but today's is very important because Method Test Prep is debuting new services for students.  Instead of the monthly pay-as-you-go model for its self-paced courses, Method Test Prep is now offering two-month, five-month and twelve-month subscription options.  If you are currently enrolled under the previous monthly pay-as-you-go model, you can continue with that model the remainder of your subscription.  We hope you will enjoy Method Test Prep's self-paced courses or teacher-led classes as you prepare for your ACT or SAT.

Testimonial Thursday

The first testimonial of September comes from Lizett from Virginia who writes, "I loved the books that I used to study for school.  I also liked how if you were to get an answer wrong the instructor would comment or put the page number to the book at the back of the question.  In general the program is great: the books, learning and instructors."  We thank Lizett for those kind words.  It's true that we try to find the best and most comprehensive study materials we can as part of our innovative curriculum.  It's also true that our instructors leave detailed feedback on every exam they grade.  That is part of the caring student service that we offer our students and graduates. You can experience both our curriculum and student service after you enroll and begin work toward your accredited high school diploma.

American School Earns Zero T12 Status from ComEd

Recently we decided it was a bright idea to upgrade our office's lighting system, but we wanted to do so in a way that would be energy-efficient and friendly to the environment.  We managed to do that and have now earned Zero T12 status from ComEd, our local electric company.  This certification recognizes that we not only are dedicated to provding the accredited high school courses you need at a cost you can afford, but also that we are dedicated to using energy efficiently.
