Today’s Anniversary: Baby Geese at American School

It's May 13, and on this date in 2008, baby geese hatched in our parking lot.  This was a momentous occasion for those of us who watched the goose and gander take turns sitting on the eggs and keeping watch over the nest for weeks before the goslings arrived.  In the days that followed their births, we watched the baby geese change and grow: shedding their down feathers and developing more permanent ones, learning how to walk (even across four lanes of traffic to a pond across the street) and eventually learning how to fly.  We can only wonder where those geese are now, but in the short time they lived on our property, they reminded us of how we help our students change and grow.  We provide a safe haven for students who have struggled in brick and mortar schools or who have always wished to earn their diplomas from their own homes.  We provide the skills and training necessary to help you improve academically, and after we send you your diploma, we give you your wings and encourage you to fly away and pursue whatever academic or career path you choose.  If you wish to hatch your American School career, we invite you to enroll today!

America’s Promise Alliance Releases 2015 Building a Grad Nation Report

This morning America's Promise Alliance released the 2015 Building a Grad Nation report.  The organization's goal is to have the United States reach an on-time high school graduation rate of 90% by 2020, and so far the organization is on its way to its goal.  The on-time high school graduation rate is higher than it's ever been before, and we are doing our part by offering our own accredited online and paper-based diploma programs as well as individual courses through our Independent Study Program so that students at brick and mortar schools can graduate on time.  Click here for an executive summary of the report or click here to read the report in its entirety.

This Weekend’s Special Occasion: Mother’s Day

This Sunday is Mother's Day, and so we'd like to acknowledge all the moms who are reading this blog.  As a mother, you may be the primary support for your son or daughter who is working toward his or her accredited high school diploma with us.  You could be a student yourself, taking courses to earn your diploma or simply taking a course or two for enrichment purposes.  Finally, you may be a school official who coordinates students' classes through our Independent Study Program or an American School employee who performs a variety of tasks to ensure our students do their very best.  In any case, we wish you a Happy Mother's Day and thank you for everything you do!

Today’s Special Occasion: Cinco de Mayo

It's May 5, and many people are celebrating Cinco de Mayo.  One way you can celebrate is by adding one of our Spanish courses to your curriculum.  We have paper-based versions of Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 and even more online Spanish courses thanks to our partnership with Rosetta Stone.  Any of them will improve your Spanish language skills, teach you a little bit about Spanish and Mexican culture, and get you one step closer to your accredited high school diploma.

Today’s Special Occasion: Teacher Appreciation Week

It's May 4, the first day of Teacher Appreciation Week.  Our students are taught by qualified instructors who genuinely care about their students.  Each of them has at least 24 hours of college credit in the subjects they grade, while many hold advanced degrees.  They all write detailed, personalized comments on every exam they grade, calling students by name and leaving constructive feedback so that students can learn from their mistakes and do better on future exams.  If you are ready to receive the same kind of help as you work toward your accredited high school diploma, enroll today!
