Colleges Work Together to Simplify Application Process

If you're thinking about applying to college, you may want to check out the Coalition for Access, Affordability and Success.  According to this article, Notre Dame and Duke are among the schools which have united to make the college application process easier, espcially for minority and lower-income students.  No matter your ethnicity or financial situation, remember that our school counselor can help make the college application process easier for you too.  Keep reading this blog and visiting our Facebook and Twitter pages for updates about college planning and everything else that is happening at American School!

Reminder About Duplicate Diplomas

Often we hear from graduates who desire a duplicate copy of their diploma.  It is our policy not to issue duplicate diplomas unless circumstances are deemed extraordinary, but graduates shouldn't despair.  Many colleges and employers would rather you present them with a copy of your official transcript, which lists the classes you took and the grades you received in them, and we are more than happy to provide all the official transcripts as you need.  The first transcript is free, and there is a modest fee for each additional one.  Please contact our Student Service Department if you need your offical transcript.  Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.

Remembering Yogi Berra

Yogi Berra, one of the greatest baseball players of all-time, died earlier this week, and while his 3 MVPs and 10 World Series titles while a catcher for the New York Yankees are certainly noteworthy, we're going to use this blog to share some "Yogi-isms" with you.  "Yogi-isms" are comments attributed to Yogi Berra that may not make sense on the surface but in fact carry a lot of wisdom.  Here are some examples and how they might relate to your American School career.  "When you see a fork in the road, take it."  We realize you have many choices for your education.  You can go to public school, private school, charter school, another distance education provider, or enroll with us.  We think that, with our curriculum, cost, caring student service and credibility, American School is the fork in the road that you should take to earn your accredited high school diploma.  "You can observe a lot by watching."  This is true.  Many of our online and paper-based courses have supplemental video material that you can watch to help you with your studies.  "It's deja vu all over again."  Despite their best efforts, sometimes our students do not pass their exams.  Instead of giving them failing grades, we give them alternate exams to complete.  Many of the exams will contain similar-looking questions to those on the original exam, but our students shouldn't despair.  Instead, they should review their study materials, including the graded original exam, to help with the alternate exam.  Finally, "it ain't over till it's over."  This is most definitely true.  We've seen students of all ages and all walks of life enroll because they want to become high school graduates.  Don't let anyone tell you your dream of becoming a high school graduate is over.  We accept enrollments year-round and are ready to help you earn your diploma.  For more "Yogi-isms" and to learn more about Yogi Berra himself, we encourage you to visit the Yoga Berra Museum and Learning Center.

Testimonial Thursday

Today we have a testimonial sent to us by Alyson from Missouri.  She writes,"I wanted to thank you all for the help given to me.  I shall take what I have learned and use it in my life.  The instructors there at American School are kind, patient and helpful.  Thank you for this experience and knowledge.  I am extremely grateful for your service."  We are extremely grateful for Allison's comments.  Our instructors make every effort to be kind, patient and helpful when they grade our students' online or paper exams.  They write constructive and detailed feedback on exams so that students can do better on future exams.  Our instructors are also available via phone, email or letter if students need assistance.  It's just one example of the caring student service we offer to those who enroll and become our students!
