Testimonial Thursday

If it's Thursday, then it must be time for a testimonial from one of our students.  Today's comes from Steven from Pennsylvania, who writes, "I found everything easy to understand, and when I did poorly on a test, the instructor made sure I fully understood what I did wrong and corrected my mistakes.  I like the fact I can work at my own pace, taking more time when I need to so I understand completely the subject I am working on."  We thank Steve for those thoughts.  It's not uncommon for our students to tell us they enjoy the ability to work at their own pace.  It's what sets us apart from many other schools.  It's also true that our instructors give detailed feedback on every exam they grade.  They tell students the correct answer and where to find it in their textbooks, study guides or online course materials.  Our instructors also call students by name in an effort to make distance learning as personal as possible.  These benefits and much more can be yours if you enroll today and become our student.

Today’s Anniversary: The Cubs Win the World Series

It's October 14, and on this date in 1908, the Chicago Cubs won their last World Series.  Perhaps in another couple weeks we'll be able to post a blog with a similar title, but today we go back more than a century to remind you of American School's longevity.  The last time the Cubs won the World Series we were already into our second decade of operation.  We were founded in Boston in 1897 and moved to Chicago a few years later.  We've been in Chicagoland ever since.  Although our course offerings have changed over the years, our commitment to providing quality education at an affordable cost has not.  Enroll today and you'll have your first course materials in time for the first pitch of this year's World Series on October 27.

Today’s Special Occasion: Columbus Day

It's October 12, and the United States is celebrating Columbus Day.  Christopher Columbus and his crews on the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria experienced rough waters and other challenges on their way to the New World, but they eventually reached their destination.  It's much the same for people wishing to earn their accredited high school diplomas.  There will be challenges along the way, but if you stay the course, you'll eventually reach your goal.  Christopher Columbus took the first step when he set sail on his journey.  You can take the first step toward your goal by enrolling and becoming our student.

Today’s Anniversary: The Great Chicago Fire

It's October 8, and on this date in 1871, the Great Chicago Fire started.  The fire raged for more than two days and destroyed the entire city with the exception of the old Water Tower and a couple other buildings which are still standing today.  The anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire is an opportunity to remind you that, should disaster strike American School's building in the far south suburbs of Chicago, your educational records would not perish.  In fact, they'd be totally safe and secure because our record system is backed up on a regular basis, and those records are kept at a secure site away from our physical property.  It's another reason why you should feel confident in enrolling and earning your accredited high school diploma from us.

Important Notice About Guarantor Passwords

Effective immediately, online student center guarantor passwords will only be available for students in our diploma programs who are younger than 18.  If you are the guarantor of a student who is older than 18 and currently have a guarantor password in your possession, it will no longer work.  This is because students who are older than 18 are considered adults and are responsible for their own work.  If you are the guarantor of a student who is older than 18, please ask the student to share his or her online student center student password with you.  You will see the same information as if you were to log in with your now-defunct guarantor password.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Today’s Special Occasion: World Teachers’ Day

October 5 is World Teachers' Day, and there's no better occasion to thank them and to tell you a little bit about the instructors who grade our students' exams.  All of them have at least 24 hours of college credit in the subjects they grade.  Many of them have advanced degrees, and many have years of hands-on experience in the subjects they grade.  We ask that our instructors make distance education as personal as possible.  That means they call students by name and write detailed comments on every exam they grade, whether it's a traditional paper exam, an online exam in one of our paper-based courses, or an exam in one of our online courses.  They are also available to assist via phone, email or letter whenever our students need assistance.  Enroll today and experience the benefit of our outstanding instructors as you work toward your accredited high school diploma!

American School Updates Enrollment Page and Applications

Visitors to our How to Enroll page will notice a new look and new forms to fill out before they can access the enrollment applications of their choice.  We appreciate your cooperation in accurately filling out these short forms.  They tell us a little bit about you, including how you heard about us, and allow us to send you email updates before you enroll.  You may remove yourself from these emails at any time, and we will not sell your email address to a third party.  In addition, we have updated the applications for our paper-based diploma program, so please discard any old applications you have.  Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward to having you as our student.
