American School Celebrates National Distance Learning Week

National Distance Learning week begins today, and we are proud to be a leader in distance learning since 1897.  Over parts of three centuries, the ways in which we've educated people have changed substantially.  Today we are proud to offer courses in both paper-based and online formats, and earlier this year we launched our own online diploma program.  In the near future we'll be adding more online courses to our curriculum while continuing to offer the same robust lineup of paper-based courses.  This week the United States Distance Learning Association is sponsoring a series of webinars to celebrate National Distance Learning Week.  We invite you to check those out as well as all of the ways we can help you earn your accredited high school diploma.  Whether you need a full program, a partial program or just one course to earn your diploma from your local high school or to supplement an existing homeschool program, we can assist you.  We look forward to having you as our student as you learn from one of the all-time greats in distance learning–American School!

Today’s Birthday: Adolphe Sax

It's November 6, and Adolphe Sax, the man who invented the saxophone, was born on this date 201 years ago today.  For years, people asked us to add a music course so they could learn more about the saxophone and other musical instruments, and now we are happy to offer Music Appreciation as part of our curriculum.  It's one of our many new online courses, and others will be added soon.  Enroll today and add Music Appreciation and other online courses to your curriculum.  We think you'll find American School to be music to your ears!

Today’s Special Occasion: Flu Shot Day

It's November 5, and today American School employees are receiving their annual flu shots.  These vaccinations are important because having immunized employees will allow us to give you consistent service throughout the fall and winter if flu season is especially bad this year.  We are grateful to our local pharmacy for coming to our building and inoculating our employees.  All of us are ready to assist you as you take your best shot at receiving an accredited high school diploma!

American School Returns to All Ohio Counselors Conference

American School is pleased to once again be an exhibitor at the All Ohio Counselors Conference. This year's event takes place at the Hilton at Easton near Columbus on November 5 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and November 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  We look forward to meeting school counselors who are attending the AOCC and who might be interested in online and paper-based courses for their students through our Independent Study Program.  We have one more convention scheduled for 2015.  Check back next week to see where we're going.

Today’s Special Occasion: Election Day

It's the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, also known as Election Day.  This year's Election Day won't have the publicity as next year's, but it's likely that there are several local and state offices up for grabs in your hometown.  The purpose of this blog is not to tell you who to vote for, nor is it to tell you to get involved in the political process at all.  Those decisions are entirely up to you.  Rather, the purpose of this blog is to inform you that we offer a paper-based Social Civics course and an online Government course, both of which are designed to make you a more informed citizen.  What you choose to do or not do with that information is up to you, but it is important that you have that knowledge so that you can be an informed citizen and learn more about how the United States is governed.

Daylight Saving Time Ends and Standard Time Returns

Over the weekend we turned our clocks back one hour to mark the end of Daylight Saving Time and the return of Standard Time.  Instead of having another hour of light in the late afternoon or early evening, we now have that hour of light in the early morning.  The change in time is a good time to remind you that you can enroll any time and do your American School work any time.  We accept enrollments year-round, and you may use our online enrollment applications to enroll around the clock.  You can also do your work whenever it's convenient for you because we allow students to work entirely at their own pace and on their own schedule.  There's no better time than today to enroll.  We look forward to having you as our student!
