Today’s Special Occasion: Leap Year Day

It's February 29, and it's not often we get to write a blog on this date.  The main reason is that February 29 only happens every four years, and in fact the next time we'll have a February 29, it'll fall on a Saturday, so we better make today's blog good.  We won't write another one on February 29 until 2024!  Indeed, we do have something special for you that will make you jump for joy on Leap Day.  Our pilot program for middle school is taking off, and we invite you to be a part of it if you have children in 6th-8th grade.  While we're excited about middle school, we're not abandoning our accredited high school courses.  They're still available in our general high school program, college preparatory program or as an independent study high school either for credit recovery or enrichment purposes.  Do something memorable this February 29 and enroll today!

American School Attends NASSP Ignite Conference

After being snowed out the last two days, our blog is back, and we're thinking warm thoughts.  That's because we're at the NASSP Ignite Conference today and tomorrow at the Gaylord Palms in Kissimmee, Florida.  Secondary school principals are invited to stop by our booth from 7:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. today and from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday to learn more about our accredited high school correspondence courses and accredited online high school courses.  Some will choose to have their students work on individual courses for credit recovery, while others will choose to have their students complete an online or correspondence high school diploma.  This is the first time we've attended the NASSP conference in several years, and we hope to exhibit for years to come!

Today’s Birthday: George Washington

It's February 22, and George Washington was born on this date in 1732.  Since he is sometimes referred to as the father of our country, we thought it would be appropriate to talk about someone who might be referred to as the father of American School, and that's our founder, R.T. Miller.  He and a group of his friends founded American School in 1897 in Boston, and, although he was a visionary when it came to making home education available to people who had to work during the day, R.T. Miller himself probably could not have envisioned what American School would become.  Today we are a leading distance education high school offering accredited high school correspondence courses and accredited online high school courses.  Now we're about to branch out and offer middle school courses as well.  Take the first step toward accomplishing something great and enroll today!

Higher Education Students Involved in Distance Education

This week USA Today published the results of a study which found what 28% of higher education students are taking or have taken at least one distance education course.  In fact, 2.85 million students in 2014 were enrolled exclusively online.  It appears that interest in online higher education is growing, so why not get a head start by taking American School's online high school courses or our new online middle school courses?  You can enroll anytime and finish anytime since our courses provide maximum flexibility for even the busiest of students, and you'll have the support of our friendly and qualified staff every step of the way!

Celebrate Digital Learning Day With Our New Middle School Courses

Today is Digital Learning Day, and we'd like to use the occasion to focus on something brand new.  Within the past week we started a pilot program introducing online middle school courses, which are taken collectively to comprise a full year of studies in 6th, 7th or 8th grade or taken individually for enrichment purposes.  Email us if you'd like more information on these online middle school courses.  We are happy to offer them as we continue to evolve into the best distance education school anywhere in the world.

Today’s Anniversary: The Silver Dollar

It's February 16, and on this date in 1874, the silver dollar became legal tender.  Silver dollars are relatively obsolete in this era of paper money, credit cards and debit cards, but they're still an acceptable form of payment when paying for your American School courses.  We do our best to keep cost to an absolute minimum.  Our paper-based high school diploma program costs $2250 for 18 units of credit, while a high school diploma with online courses costs $3600 for 18 units of credit.  Individual online high school courses cost between $200 and $250, while high school correspondence courses typically cost between $150 and $300.  Monthly payment plans are available for students in our diploma programs.  Visit our enrollment page to download the application of your choice and get started today!
