American School Kicks Off 2016 Convention Schedule at WSCA Conference

After a couple months of attending to matters in the office, American School will go back on the road next week and begin its 2016 convention schedule.  We'll be attending the Wisconsin School Counselor Association Conference from February 16-18 at the Monona Terrace in Madison. The exhibit hall will be open on February 16 from 4-6 p.m.; February 17 from 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m.; and February 18 from 8-11 a.m., and we look forward to meeting counselors who are interested in our accredited high school courses for credit recovery or enrichment purposes.  Check back later this month to discover where your favorite distance education high school is going at the end of February!

Today’s Special Occasion: Mardi Gras

It's the day before Ash Wednesday, known by some as Fat Tuesday and by others as Mardi Gras.  Around here, many of us eat paczki on the last day before Lent.  Paczki are donuts filled with fruit or cheese or bavarian cream, and they help put the "fat" into Fat Tuesday.  One American School employee who eats paczki all Lent long could probably benefit from American School's accredited online high school courses and high school correspondence courses that are related to food.  There's an online Introduction to Culinary Arts course that contains information on food preparation and current food trends.  A paper-based Food Study course contains plenty of information on good nutrition which more than likely doesn't include eating paczki.  If you want to earn a high school diploma at home or simply want to take one of those food courses as part of an independent study high school, we invite you to enroll today and you can fatten up on accredited high school courses rather than paczki!

Today’s Special Occasion: Chinese New Year

Today is Chinese New Year, and 2016 is the Year of the Monkey.  For years when we attended conventions across the country, people told us they wanted us to offer Mandarin Chinese as a world language, and so we partnered with Rosetta Stone to offer Mandarin Chinese and nine other world languages.  The first day of the Year of the Monkey is a great day to enroll.  We think you'll go bananas over Mandarin Chinese and our other online high school courses!

Today’s Special Occasion: National Wear Red Day

It's February 5, and today is National Wear Red Day.  Heart health and overall wellness for men and women is important, and so next week American School will host a health event for its employees.  You can learn more about health-related issues by taking our paper-based Physiology and Health course in which health is covered in the second semester or our online Health course.  Both courses will help make you healthier and help you earn a high school diploma at home.  Take the first step and enroll today!

Today’s Birthday: Facebook

It's February 4, and Facebook is 12 years old today.  It's the perfect occasion to talk about our Facebook page.  We're grateful that more than 2600 people have liked our page since we started it, and we hope that number grows.  Our Facebook and Twitter pages are where we post our latest updates, and trust us when we say that you'll want to keep an eye on both pages this year because we have some big news coming up.  We'll be adding more online high school courses and revising and updating paper-based courses you need if you're interested in our correspondence high school diploma.  We also plan to branch out into a different level of education, and we can't wait to tell you more about that later this year.  Like everything else, it'll be here in our blog and on our Facebook and Twitter pages as soon as we officially announce it!

American School Celebrates National School Counseling Week

We're right smack dab in the middle of National School Counseling Week, and so today's blog is all about our school counselor.  Our school counselor helps countless students with questions ranging from ACT/SAT Prep to college admissions to course selections to financial aid and everything in between.  There's a School Counselor page in the Online Student Center which contains our school counselor's phone number and email address and a special section on college readiness.  Soon our school counselor will formally unveil a new way for you to request transcripts and have them sent to the school of your choice.  We are grateful for our school counselor as well as the school counselors who choose to work with us through our Independent Study Program and wish them a happy National School Counseling Week!

Today’s Special Occasion: Groundhog Day

It's February 2, and groundhogs everywhere are emerging from their dens to give their annual weather forecasts.  Today, like Punxsatawney Phil, American School's groundhog did not see his shadow since it's cloudy outside our office.  That means we'll have an early spring here, but the alternative–six more weeks of winter–shouldn't depress anyone.  That's because our students can work on their high school diploma online courses anytime from anywhere in any weather.  The same is true for our students who are working on their correspondence high school diplomas.  That flexibility is a major reason why millions have chosen us to be their distance education school.  We'd be happy to serve you as well.  Enroll today!

Update on Enrolling and Making Payments

Last Friday we had to suspend online enrollments of new students and online payments by current students due to a glitch in the overall online payment process.  This morning the overall online payment process was fixed, and we are now accepting online enrollments of new students and online payments by current students.  We appreciate your understanding and are grateful you have chosen our high school diploma program for your educational needs.
