Reminder About Phone Calls to Prospective Students

For the past few months, forms available on our enrollment page have included the opportunity for prospective students and parents to request a phone call from us to answer some of their questions before enrolling.  We are happy to make these phone calls but wish to remind prospective students and parents of the time frame during which we make these phone calls.   The forms clearly state that we make phone calls between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Chicago time.  Therefore, please do not ask us to call you outside of these hours.  We are unable to do so and will be happy to answer your questions via email.  Thank you for your cooperation and for your interest in our accredited high school program and accredited middle school program.  We look forward to being your family's distance education high school and middle school.

American School Featured in The Old Schoolhouse Magazine

American School is proud to be featured in the Spring issue of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.  A two-page interview describes some of the ways we help students earn a high school diploma at home, such as our General High School Program and College Preparatory Program.  We also offer paper-based or online high school courses for enrichment or credit recovery, and our new middle school courses are available for students in grades 6-8 as well.  We're grateful to The Old Schoolhouse for profiling us and look forward to being of service to their readers!

Holocaust Survivor Visits American School at Midwest Homeschool Convention

Last week American School attended three conventions, and we were excited to meet students, parents and school officials at those events.  At the Midwest Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati, however, our booth received a very special visitor.  Holocaust survivor and author Inge Auerbacher stopped by in between sessions and shared her story with our booth representatives.  We were honored to meet her and will share pictures of her in the March-April All American newsletter, which should be available next week.  We have several conventions coming up later this month and in May, so check back often to see where your favorite distance education high school is headed next!

Today’s Birthday: Ole Kirk Christiansen

It's April 7, and Ole Kirk Christiansen was born on this date in 1891.  He may not be a household name, but we're pretty sure you've heard of the company he founded in 1947.  In fact, you probably have some of that company's items in your house now or played with some of that company's items when you were a child.  That's because Ole Kirk Christiansen founded Lego in 1947, and the Danish company has sold billions and billions of plastic bricks all over the world since then.  When it comes to taking accredited high school courses to earn a high school diploma at home, you might think of it as building your favorite Lego creation.  Your high school correspondence courses and accredited online high school courses build on each other.  When you have 18 of them put together, we'll send you an accredited online or correspondence high school diploma.  As with Lego, there are endless possibilities what your final curriculum will look like.  That's because both our General High School and College Preparatory Programs offer room for electives of your choice and allow you to transfer credits from an accredited school if you've already earned high school credit.  Take the first step toward building the life you want and enroll with us today.

Important Reminder About E-Mail Addresses

Today's blog contains some important reminders about e-mail addresses.  The first is for new students and the second is for current students.  For new students, please make sure you enter an accurate e-mail address on your enrollment application.  We will use this e-mail address to contact you with important information, including information on how to access your online courses and online exams should you enroll in those.  If you don't give us an accurate e-mail address, this could cause a delay in you receiving important information.  For current students, it is your responsibility to make sure we have an accurate e-mail address for you.  We do not change or add e-mail addresses after they have been entered into our system.  Students and guarantors can change their e-mail addresses themselves by clicking the appropriate link inside the online student center, and our system will be updated accordingly.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Today’s Special Occasion: Opening Day

Today is Opening Day for most Major League Baseball teams, and whether your favorite team is expected to contend for a World Series title or is going through a rebuilding process, there is a sense of anticipation and optimism in the air around the country.  Certainly those of us who attended a convention in Cincinnati this past weekend got a taste of that as we saw final preparations being made for the Opening Day parade which happens just before the Reds take the field later today against the Phillies.  You'll feel the same type of hope when you enroll and become our student.  Choose from our college preparatory program or general high school program if you want to earn a high school diploma at home or enroll in individual accredited high school courses to enrich an existing program or to recover credits.  You can even enroll in our brand new online middle school courses.  We're confident you'll hit it out of the park after you make American School your distance education high school!
