New Courses, Prices Coming soon

It's the last day of August, but before we wrap up this month's blogs, we want to give you a sneak preview of what you can expect from one of the best distance education high schools and middle schools in the last third of 2016.  We'll be adding more online high school courses that may be part of an online high school diploma program or taken individually as part of an independent study high school program or for enrichment.  Some of the courses will be taught at levels we've never offered before.  We also plan to add more online middle school courses to our accredited middle school program.  Along with these new additions, we'll be making slight adjustments to the prices of our diploma programs and individual courses.  New applications with updated prices will be available in the coming weeks, but if you want to lock in current prices, we invite you to enroll today.  Thank you for your continued interest in American School.  We are proud to offer you the accredited courses you need at a cost you can afford!

Today’s Birthday: Ernest Rutherford

It's August 30, and scientist Ernest Rutherford was born on this date in 1871.  His particular area of expertise was nuclear physics and radiation.  He proved that atoms have most of their mass and charge concentrated in a single nucleus, and he also discovered and named the proton, which is a unit of positive charge in an atom.  After his death, his tributes included having an element named after him (appropriately called rutherfordium) and being buried in Westminster Abbey near other great British scientists.  If you want to learn more about Rutherford's work, consider taking some of our science courses.  The best online high school courses around include our online physics and chemistry courses.  They may be taken individually or as part of an online high school diploma program.  If you like working on paper, we have high school correspondence courses in physics and chemistry, including a chemistry lab course.  Again, those may be taken individually or as part of a correspondence high school diploma program.  We are proud to offer you courses in multiple formats so that you can learn in the way that is best for you.  We'd be even prouder to have you as our student, so enroll toay!

U.S. Open Begins in New York

It's August 29, and today is the first day of the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York.  American School students and graduates have been very successful in this event, none more than 1994 and 1999 champion Andre Agassi, who has runner-up finishes in 1990, 1995, 2002 and 2005 to go along with those two titles.  On the women's side, Mary Pierce was runner-up in 2005, and Caroline Wozniacki was runner-up in 2009 and 2014.  Many tennis players choose to earn a high school diploma at home with us because we offer flexibility.  All of our students work toward their correspondence high school diploma or online high school diploma for adults or children when and where it is convenient for them, whether that is at home, at a school or while traveling around the world competing in elite sporting events.  If you would like us to "serve" you, we'd be happy to have you as our student.  Enroll today!

Today’s Special Occasion: National Dog Day

It's August 26 and today is National Dog Day.  If you want to draw a pretty picture of your perfect pooch, you can learn how to do that by taking our Art: Drawing Animals course.  It's one of hundreds of accredited high school courses that may be taken individually to recover credit or for enrichment or collectively as part of a paper-based or online high school diploma program.  We are proud to offer such a diverse and varied curriculum of online high school courses and paper-based high school courses and are excited to offer online middle school courses as well.  To prove we're not "dogging" it, we'll be adding more course soon, so "sit" or "stay" right where you are and keep watching this blog for all of our latest updates!

Today’s Birthday: The National Park Service

It's August 25, and the National Park Service was established on this date in 1916.  Over the years this blog has suggested visiting historical sites and presidential libraries and museums, but trips to those places may require quite a bit of travel.  That's not the case with the national parks since there are national parks in every state.  The centennial of the organization is a great time to visit one near you and learn something new.  It's a great way to complement the education you receive while working on online middle school courses, online high school courses or high school correspondence courses from a distance education high school that has been around even longer than the National Park Service.

Today’s Birthday: The Internet

It's August 23, and the Internet turns 25 years old today.  While we are pleased to offer a general high school program and a college preparatory program among our paper-based options and have no plans whatsoever to discontinue those options, we're excited to offer the best online high school courses and online middle school courses too.  Those courses, as well as this web site, this blog, our social media pages, the online student center and more, would not be possible without the Internet.  You can even enroll online and we encourage you to do so today!

Reminder About Sending Us Transcripts

Last week we shared a blog about requesting transcripts from us if you are our student or graduate, but what if the situation is reversed and you wish to send us an official transcript from a previous school before enrolling in our accredited high school program?  We are happy to receive and evaluate such transcripts before you enroll.  In fact, if you have any high school credit at all, even a half-unit of credit, you should send us an official transcript.  Until you are officially our student, we cannot request a transcript, so you must contact your previous school and ask for one.  Your school may send one to us directly, or your school may give you one and ask you to send it to us.  You can send transcripts to us in three ways: mail, email or fax.  If a school gives you a transcript in a sealed envelope, please do not open it.  Doing so may make it unofficial.  When we receive the transcript, we'll evaluate it and give you credit for the vast majority of work already completed, and those credits will save you time and money as you earn a high school diploma at home.  Thank you for keeping these suggestions in mind as you begin the process of taking accredited online high school courses and accredited high school correspondence courses with us.

Today’s Special Occasion: World Photo Day

It's August 19, and today is World Photo Day.  Since we offer the best online high school courses as well as the best correspondence high school courses, you're probably not surprised that we offer photography courses in both formats.  Our online Digital Photography course is among our more popular online high school courses, and our paper-based Photography course is among our more popular high school correspondence courses.  They may be taken individually for credit recovery or enrichment or as part of an accredited high school program that will result in you earning a diploma from American School.  If you picture yourself as a high school graduate, we invite you to enroll today.
