Today’s Special Occasion: Columbus Day

It's Columbus Day, and we're encouraging all of you to set sail toward a new destination if you haven't done so already.  We don't mean starting a perilous ocean voyage to a distant land but rather enrolling with American School and taking the first step toward completing middle school or high school.  We have a wide variety of online middle school courses, accredited online high school courses and high school correspondence courses which are perfect for any situation.  Take them individually to recover credit at a local public or private school or take them to enhance an existing homeschool program.  You can also take them collectively as you work toward completing a grade and ultimately earning your diploma through an accredited high school program.  When you're done, you'll get something more valuable than gold: an online high school diploma or a correspondence high school diploma from a leader in distance education since 1897, American School!

Today’s Special Occasion: World Smile Day

It's the first Friday in October, and World Smile Day is celebrated on the first Friday in October every year.  All of us at American School are dedicated to making you smile while you take online middle school courses, online high school courses or high school correspondence courses with us.  That doesn't mean every course will be easy or that you'll enjoy every course.  Rather, it means that you'll enjoy caring student service from the moment you enroll through and beyond the time you receive your online high school diploma or correspondence high school diploma from us.  That caring student service has been important to us for more than a century, and we look forward to making you smile after you become our student and eventually our graduate.  🙂

Testimonial Thursday

We haven't done a Testimonial Thursday recently, and just this week we received the following letter from one of our recent graduates.  He wrote, "I just thought I would write a thank you note for everything.  This is my last test I am sending in.  I have learned so much over the last 5 years.  It was hard and I often found myself stumped or lost, but through studying…I was able to figure it out.  I know I have learned so much more than I would have in a classroom setting.  I would go on the internet and try to learn what fascinates me in my free time.  I have since started working on cars and I am in the process of building a Subaru.  Thanks."  It's letters like that which encapsulate our entire mission here.  We're a distance education high school that allows students to take as much time as they need while working toward an online high school diploma or a correspondence high school diploma.  That flexibility allows students to pursue other interests, such as, in the case of today's testimonial writer, building cars.  We are proud to count him among our graduates and would like you in that group too.  Enroll today!

American School to Attend AMLE Conference

After taking August and September to attend to matters in the office, American School is back on the road at two conventions next week.  The first is the Annual Conference for Middle Level Education in Austin, Texas on October 10 and 11.  We'll be in booth 803 at the Austin Convention Center on October 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on October 11 from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.  Come see us and learn more about our online middle school courses and accredited middle school program, which are a perfect springboard to our accredited online high school courses and online high school diploma program.  You'll also have the chance to pick up our promotional items to take home with you.  We hope to see you there!

Today’s Anniversary: The Gregorian Calendar

It's October 4, and on this date in 1582, Pope Gregory instituted the Gregorian calendar that is still used today.  As you can imagine, switching to a new calendar format was difficult.  The old Julian calendar had a different way of calculating time, and when the world switched over to the new Gregorian calendar, hours, days and even weeks were lost in the switch.  It was October 4 one day and October 15 the next.  Fortunately nobody is planning to change the way we tell time anytime soon!  Occasionally people will contact us and want to know our calendar.  They want to know if there are deadlines for starting and finishing accredited online high school courses, high school correspondence courses and online middle school courses.  In truth, you can enroll any time of the year and finish any time of the year.  You'll have a certain deadline to meet per the terms of your contract, but if you finish before then, congratulations!  You can move on to your next course or your next endeavor.  It's not uncommon for people to enroll in the middle of a traditional school year and graduate in the middle of a traditional school year.  In your classroom of one, you set the schedule that works best for you.  We look forward to you receiving an online high school diploma or correspondence high school diploma signed by our president and principal and stamped with a date from the Gregorian calendar after you graduate from American School!

October Preview

It's our first blog post of October, and it's shaping up to be a busy month around here.  We're attending two conventions, and you'll be able to read about those in future blogs.  We're also having our annual meeting near the end of the month at which we'll review the past year's accomplishments, such as introducing online middle school courses and an accredited middle school program, and start planning for the future that will include more courses for our online high school diploma and correspondence high school diploma programs.  Keep checking this blog for all the latest news!
