Today’s Special Occasion: Veterans Day

Today is November 11, and we're celebrating Veterans Day by thanking all veterans and their families.  We're proud to have the word "American" in our name and proud to serve students all across the United States and in more than 65 countries around the world.  We couldn't do that without the men and women who, along with their families, have sacrificed so much for our country by serving during war or in peace times.  American School takes no official political stance, nor do we take any official position on military matters, but we do offer our profound gratitude to these men, women and children and are proud to recognize them today in our blog.

Testimonial Thursday

It's Thursday, so let's do another testimonial from one of our students.  Today Sydney from Illinois writes, "I really love the self-check tests.  Sometimes I think that I completely understand a concept and then I do really badly on the self-check test.  It helps me to study what I’m struggling with."  Sydney makes a great point.  The self-check tests in our high school correspondence courses are very useful preparation for taking unit exams.  Similar pre-tests are available in our online high school courses and online middle school courses too.  We give our students every opportunity to succeed.  Exams have no surprise or trick questions, and students have all the resources they need to do well on exams.  We want to see you and your children succeed as well.  Enroll today!

American School Web Site Fully Operational

Over the past two days our web site has been slow, sluggish and sometimes not fully operational.  We know that is frustrating for you since you want to work on your online high school courses and online middle school courses or learn more about those online courses as well as our high school correspondence courses, and we apologize for your frustration.  The good news is that we've identified the problem and our site should be speedy and fully operational now.  We are grateful that you have chosen use to be your distance education middle school and distance education high school and are happy to have you as our students.

Today’s Special Occasion: Election Day

It's Election Day, but since American School takes no official stance on political matters, we instead will give you our campaign platform as we try to earn your vote when you consider distance education high schools and middle schools.  We offer a complete curriculum consisting of online middle school courses, online high school courses and high school correspondence courses.  Take them individually to supplement an existing homeschool program or for credit recovery, or take a package of them that will lead to an online high school diploma or correspondence high school diploma from us.  We're a non-profit institution, so we are able to keep your cost to an absolute minimum, and if you have questions or need help, our staff is available via phone, fax or email to assist you.  Cast your ballot for American School and you can feel confident we'll keep our campaign promises to you and your fellow students.

National Distance Learning Week Begins

Today is the first day of National Distance Learning Week, and so it's a great opportunity for us to remind you of the different distance learning techniques we offer at American School.  Students may take accredited high school correspondence courses and accredited online high school courses to help earn a high school diploma at home or for credit recovery purposes.  We also have online exams available for many of those correspondence courses.  If you're in grades 6-8, you can take our accredited online middle school courses, and we hope to have middle school correspondence courses available early in 2017.  We're happy to have so many different distance learning options available, and there's no better way to celebrate National Distance Learning Week than to enroll with us today!

American School To Make First Trip to MSCA Fall Conference

American School is pleased to make its first appearance at the Missouri School Counselor Association Fall Conference on November 6-7 at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach.  We'll be at table 51 on November 6 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on November 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon. to discuss our independent study high school programs and accredited middle school program with those in attendance.  We'll also have information about our online high school diploma and correspondence high school diploma programs on hand just in case counselors might find that information useful to them and their students as well.  We've heard nothing but great things about the MSCA Fall Conference and are looking forward to meeting counselors from our neighbor to the west at this event.

Today’s Special Occasion: The Cubs Win the World Series

In 1908, American School was 11 years old and just been in Chicago a handful of years.  We were just starting out as a distance education high school and no one could have imagined one day we'd be offering accredited online high school courses and online middle school courses.  Before last night, 1908 was also the last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series.  Not surprisingly, many American School employees have been long-time Cub fans and are celebrating today, most notably Trustee Mary McKeown, who has served American School for 74 years in one capacity or another.  If you do the math and know a little baseball history, you can figure out that Mary began her American School career before the Cubs' last World Series appearance in 1945.  Until last night, some people believed that the Cubs were cursed, either by a billy goat or a black cat or by other unseen forces.  If you feel the same way about your chances of getting an accredited high school diploma, don't lose hope.  You don't have to wait till next year to get started.  You can enroll today and be confident that one day you'll be able to fly the W as an American School graduate.

Phone Calls to Prospective Students and Enrollees

We are happy to make phone calls to prospective students and their parents if they request calls from us during our business hours.  These calls are a good time for them to learn more about our online high school courses, high school correspondence courses and online middle school courses.  Prospective students request these calls by filling out a form before they access their enrollment applications.  We get copies of the information provided on those forms, as well as pending applications and confirmed applications.  If you fill out a form and then go on to complete an enrollment application, however, you can expect to hear from our admissions department confirming your enrollment rather than receive a call from us.  Thank you for understanding and for allowing us to provide efficient service to you and all of our students around the world.

American School To Attend ISCA Fall Conference

American School is back on the road this week, and we're making our first convention appearance of November at the Indiana School Counselor Association Fall Conference on November 3-4 in Indianapolis.  We'll be at table 37 at the Indianapolis Marriott East on November 3 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on November 4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. showcasing our independent study high school program.  We're also excited to tell counselors about our new online middle school courses which have proven to be a great complement to our accredited online high school courses and high school correspondence courses that we've offered for years.  We're grateful to have a great working relationship with counselors from our neighbor to the east and we look forward to seeing them this week!
