Announcing 2017-18 SAT Dates

Today's blog announces dates for the SAT during the 2017-18 academic year.  For the first time, the SAT will be administered in August but will no longer be administered in January.   The 2017-18 SAT test dates are August 26, October 7, November 4, December 2, March 10, May 5 and June 2.  Respective registration deadlines for those SAT test dates are July 28, September 8, October 5, November 2, February 9, April 6 and May 3.  You may register online, and when you do, remember to enter 140650 as your school code.  Now is not too soon to start planning when to take the SAT.  It is an important step as you work toward your online high school diploma or correspondence high school diploma from American School.

Update on Payments

Today we want to give you an update on making payments on our web site.  We are currently in the process of making further upgrades to our payment system, and we appreciate your patience during this process.  Perhaps you have had difficulty making a payment when you tried to enroll in our accredited middle school program or accredited high school program or experienced similar frustration as a current student making a monthly payment toward your online high school diploma or correspondence high school diploma.  We apologize for any difficulty you had and hope to have upgrades to our payment system complete by this summer, if not sooner.  If you have trouble, you can always call or email us to make payments that way.  We appreciate having you as our student!

Today’s Special Occasion: Cinco de Mayo

Today is May 5, and our blog is celebrating Cinco de Mayo by featuring our online Spanish courses.  The link above connects you to a description of our high school Spanish courses.  They're part of the many online high school courses in our curriculum, and we're pleased to offer Spanish and several other world language courses through a partnership with Rosetta Stone.  We also offer Beginning Spanish and Intermediate Spanish among our online middle school courses.  Potentially students could take five years' worth of Spanish courses with us, an appropriate number considering today's holiday.  Enroll today and feel comfortable taking courses from a top distance education high school and middle school.

American School to Attend Oklahoma Homeschool Convention

American School is on the road every week in May starting with the Oklahoma Homeschool Convention May 5-6 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.  Guests can visit us in booth H-2 on May 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and May 6 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  As usual, we'll have plenty of information about our accredited middle school program and accredited high school program.  The middle school program has been a big hit at previous conventions this year, and we're excited to announce the addition of paper-based middle school courses to go along with our online middle school courses this fall.  Guests in OKC can also stop by our booth for a chance to win an iPad as part of a contest organized by the convention.  We hope to see you there!

Scholarship Opportunity Available

From time to time we like to inform our students of scholarship opportunities beyond the ones we award each year.  Today we are featuring the Work Ethic Scholarship Program.  The link on this page contains all the information you need to apply.  We're proud to have so many talented students in our distance education high school.  One of the nice things about taking accredited high school courses with us is that we offer a general high school program for students who wish to join the workforce or attend a two-year college after graduating and a college prep program for students who plan to attend a four-year university after graduating.  Both options are available in our online high school diploma program and our paper-based high school diploma program.

Business Law and Fundamentals of Electricity Discontinued

American School has announced that Business Law and Fundamentals of Electricity have been discontinued.  Although these courses are no longer available for students in our accredited high school program, we remain committed to offering a wide variety of high school correspondence courses and online high school courses.  We plan to offer additional courses this fall and will continue to review our course offerings regularly to ensure that our students can pick electives or individual subjects that most appeal to them.  Students who planned to take Business Law and/or Fundamentals of Electricity can contact us for information on selecting replacement courses.  Thank you for your cooperation.  We are happy to have you as our students!

Today’s Special Occasion: May Day

It's May 1, sometimes referred to as May Day.  The phrase "mayday!" is often a cry for help in times of great distress, and maybe you've been in distress when it comes to your education.  Perhaps you dropped out of high school years ago and are now interested in an online high school diploma for adults or an accredited high school program made up of high school correspondence courses.  Maybe you're in desperate need of some of the best online high school courses or paper-based high school courses to make up credits and graduate on time with your class.  Either way, American School has the accredited courses you need at a cost you can afford.  Visit our enrollment page to learn more!
