Upcoming American School and Blog Schedule

American School will be closed July 3 and July 4 in observance of Independence Day.  We wish everyone a happy and safe holiday weekend.  Although American School will reopen with normal business hours on July 5, this blog is taking some additional time off and will publish its next post on July 12.  We are grateful to have so many readers and so many students taking high school correspondence courses, online high school courses and online middle school courses with us.  We look forward to seeing you in a couple weeks!

American School Holds Professional Development Day

American School is having a professional development day today and will return to regular business hours tomorrow.  You may email us today if you have questions about your online high school courses, high school correspondence courses or online middle school courses, but you may not receive a reply until tomorrow.  If you wish to call us, please do so tomorrow.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to create a better school to serve you.

American School Welcomes Board of Trustees

Today our Board of Trustees is in our building for a series of meetings.  We're grateful to the trustees for their leadership and willingness to assist us as we strive to become the best distance education high school and distance education middle school in the world.  Our trustees look at American School in its entirety, from our accredited high school program and accredited middle school program and the courses offered in each all the way to our finances and physical plant and much more.  We look forward to putting their ideas and policies into practice so that American School can always grow and become a better school that serves students of all backgrounds all around the world.

American School Holds 79th Annual Scholarship Meeting

Today American School is holding its 79th annual Scholarship Committee Meeting.  Permanent committee members and American School Trustees Dr. John Kemp and Cher Tufly are being joined by this year's guest committee member, Leslie Ballard, Director of AdvancED Indiana, to select this year's winners, all of whom will be profiled in an upcoming All American newsletter.  This year's winners wanted to earn a high school diploma at home and did just that by using our college preparatory program or general high school diploma program.  Special thanks to Janet Howe and Kathy Peters for coordinating this year's scholarship process.  Applications for our 2018 scholarships will be sent to eligible graduates early next year.

Today’s Special Occasion: First Day of Summer

It's June 21, and today is the first day of summer.  Many people enjoy summer vacations and think of anything but school during the months of June, July and August, but American School accepts enrollments year-round.  Some students who enroll in the summer take accredited high school courses or online middle school courses for credit recovery.  Other students who want to complete full years of middle school or earn a high school diploma at home enroll in the summer to get a head start on their studies.  Whatever your reason for enrolling, don't put it off until the fall.  If you enroll today, you'll have your first course by the end of this month and could have it complete by the time autumn rolls around.  Get started today!

Today’s Anniversary: The Great Seal of the United States

It's June 20, and on this date in 1782, Congress adopted the Great Seal of the United States.  American School has had several seals of its own during the last 120 years, each of which expresses our commitment to offering quality education which could result in a correspondence high school diploma, online high school diploma, or full years of middle school.  Our current seal below has our name, the date in which we were chartered (or established) in Massachusetts, an eagle, a lamp and an open book which contains a great quote about education.  Your education really is your key to success.  Without it, you won't have the career or lifestyle you've always wanted.  We'll be debuting a new seal soon, so look for it on our web site and other documents like your transcripts and diploma!

Today’s Birthday: Blaise Pascal

It's June 19, and mathematician and scientist Blaise Pascal was born on this date in 1623.  His work and influence may be found in many of our math and science courses that students take as part of an accredited high school program or individually for credit recovery or enrichment.  We're pleased to offer a variety of high school correspondence courses and online high school courses so that students can learn in a format that is comfortable to them.  We'll be adding more courses later this year, so stay tuned!

American School Listed on Lansing App

American School is proud to appear on the official app of its hometown.  Click here for information on the app for the Village of Lansing.  We're on there with other businesses and community organizations.  It is our hope that residents of Lansing and neighboring communities will view the app, see our listing, learn more about our online middle school courses, online high school courses and high school correspondence courses, and then enroll and become our student.  We enjoy having students locally as well as across the United States and overseas.
