Today’s Birthday: Beatrix Potter

It's July 28, and children's author Beatrix Potter was born on this date in 1866.  She is best known for books that featured Peter Rabbit.  You may have read those stories as a child, and if you did, they provided you with a good foundation for reading different types of literature as you got older.  We have many literature coures among our high school correspondence courses and online high school courses.  There is something for every interest and every skill level, and you'll be able to read and work at your own pace as you work to earn a high school diploma at home.  It's a hare-brained idea to enroll anywhere else, so get started with American School today!

American School to Attend Southeast Homeschool Expo

American School is thrilled to attend the Southeast Homeschool Expo this Friday and Saturday at the Cobb Galleria just north of Atlanta.  Visit us in booth 901 on July 28 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and July 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  We'll have information about our high school correspondence courses, online high school courses and online middle school courses, and if that's not enough, we'll also have tons of our famous freebies for everyone who stops by and says hello.  The Southeast Homeschool Expo wraps up our summer convention schedule, and we're confident we'll go out in style since it's always one of the biggest events of the year.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Today’s Anniversary: The Post Office

It's July 26, and on this date in 1775, the United States Post Office Department was established.  Lately there's been a lot of attention paid to our online high school diploma program and online middle school courses, and rightfully so since those programs offer students new ways to learn.  That said, we've offered a correspondence high school diploma program for decades, and we wouldn't be able to do that without the post office.  We mail students study materials, students mail us exams, we return students' graded exams, and ultimately a student completes an accredited high school program to earn a high school diploma at home entirely through the mail.  While online courses increase in popularity, a huge number of people want correspondence courses, and so we have no plans to discontinue sending paper courses through the mail.  In fact, we'll be adding more middle school and high school correspondence courses very soon.  Stay tuned!

Christmas in July

It's July 25, exactly 5 months until Christmas, so let's celebrate Christmas in July by previewing some exciting changes we'll be making in the coming weeks and months.  Shortly we'll introduce paper-based middle school courses, which will be a terrific complement to our accredited middle school program which is currently comprised entirely of online middle school courses.  We will also offer AP courses for the very first time, and these will be a great addition to our impressive roster of online high school courses.  We're also planning to introduce new high school correspondence courses during the 2017-18 academic year.  Keep checking this blog for release dates, and enroll today to be among the very first students to take these new courses.

Today’s Birthday: Amelia Earhart

It's July 24, and Amelia Earhart was born on this date in 1897.  She broke barriers by becoming the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and to this day many girls and women look to Amelia Earhart as inspiration for themselves as they try new things.  American School, which also debuted in 1897, can help you accomplish whatever goals you've set for youself.  We offer an accredited high school program consisting of online high school courses and high school correspondence courses.  If you're not ready for high school just yet, we also offer an accredited middle school program that is perfect for students in grades 6-8.  With the new school year fast approaching, now is the perfect time to taxi down our runway and take off toward a bright future.  Enroll with American School today!

American School to Attend THSC Convention

American School is proud to exhibit at the Texas Home School Coalition Convention in The Woodlands this weekend.  Stop by booth 822 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott on Thursday, July 20, from 5 to 7 p.m.; on Friday, July 21, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and on Saturday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to learn more about our online middle school courses, online high school courses and high school correspondence courses.  They're available as part of full-year programs, or students can take them individually to enrich an existing homeschool program.  This convention is usually one of the biggest of the year, and we are looking forward to another great show this year.  Come see us in Texas, and come visit this blog again on Monday when we'll have our next post.

New Foods and Nutrition Course Available

American School is pleased to announce the debut of a new Foods and Nutrition course.  This course replaces our Food Study course and has 7 exams.  It may be taken as a full unit or half unit course.  We're pleased to offer Foods and Nutrition among our high school correspondence courses.  Students take these courses en route to a correspondence high school diploma or for credit recovery or enrichment through our independent study high school program.  Keep checking this blog often because we'll be adding more courses later this year.

Today’s Special Occasion: Bastille Day

It's July 14, and France is celebrating Bastille Day.  Today's the perfect occasion to mention that we offer French 1 and French 2 among our high school correspondence courses and offer three levels of French among our online high school courses.  French is just one of more than 20 different world languages we offer to our students who are trying to earn a high school diploma at home or from a resident high school.  Find your favorite and enroll today!

Caroline Wozniacki Competes at Wimbledon

American School student Caroline Wozniacki reached the fourth round at Wimbledon before falling to Coco Vandeweghe of the United States in the round of 16 in straight sets.  In the first round, Caroline defeated Timea Bobos of Hungary in three sets.  She then went on to defeat Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria in the second round in straight sets and outlasted Anett Kontaveit of Estonia in three sets in the third round.  Her appearance in the fourth round equaled her best performance at Wimbledon, and we look forward to seeing how Caroline does during the upcoming summer hardcourt season in North America.  By the time Caroline begins the U.S. Open in late August, you can have a course or two completed toward your online high school diploma or correspondence high school diploma or be on your way to completing a full year of middle school with online middle school courses if you enroll today.

American School Wins Practical Homeschooling i-Learn Awards

American School is proud and grateful to receive two 2017 Practical Homeschooling i-Learn Awards.  We received third place in the high school core category and honorable mention in the middle school category.  The awards show that homeschoolers and their parents enjoy our online middle school courses, online high school courses and high school correspondence courses.  With the launch of several new courses this summer, we're hoping to win many more i-Learn Awards in the future, including some first place and second place awards to go along with the awards we received in 2017.  Keep checking this blog for updates.
