American School Closed January 1

American School will be closed Monday, January 1, and reopen on Tuesday, January 2.  As we look back on the past year and look ahead to the new year, one constant is our gratitude toward our students.  We're grateful you have chosen to earn a high school diploma at home with us or take independent study high school courses or be part of our accredited middle school program.  We look forward to making 2018 the best year yet, so if you're not our student already, start your new year off right by enrolling today!

Today’s Anniversary: Iowa

It's December 28, and Iowa became a state on this date in 1846.  We have students in all 50 states and attend conventions in many states around the country each year, but to our knowledge, we've never attended a convention in the Hawkeye State.  Will that change in 2018?  You'll have to wait and see.  We've been busy finalizing our 2018 convention schedule which begins in February, and we'll share details soon.  We enjoy traveling and introducing people to our online high school diploma program, correspondence high school diploma program and independent study high school program.  We also like sharing news about our accredited middle school program which will expand in 2018.  Hopefully you can join us next year at a convention.  We'd love to meet you and help you or a family member get enrolled with American School!

Today’s Anniversary: The HMS Beagle

It's December 27, and on this date in 1831, Charles Darwin set sail aboard the HMS Beagle.  We mention this today because Darwin and his theory of evolution appear in some of the materials for our online high school courses, high school correspondence courses and online middle school courses.  The American School takes no official stance on evolution.  We know it is an important issue for many of our students, and if students and their families are uncomfortable studying evolution, we make other units available to replace units on evolution.  We are dedicated to offering courses that serve everyone and are happy to make appropriate accommodations when asked.  It's one of the reasons we have been a top distance education high school for the past 120 years, and we have no plans to change that philosophy when we flip the calendar to 2018 next week.

Today’s Special Occasion: Boxing Day

It's December 26, and today is Boxing Day, a holiday observed in many countries but not in the United States.  As you might expect, American School goes through a LOT of boxes shipping high school correspondence courses to our students, but we're happy to ship books and study materials to all 50 states and more than 65 countries around the world, including many countries which celebrate Boxing Day today.  Some students receive boxes of books to complete a correspondence high school diploma program, while others receive smaller boxes because they are taking one or two high school independent study courses.  If you're worried about attending a distance education high school, think outside the box and enroll today.  Your first box of courses will arrive shortly, and we'll be happy to have you as our student!

American School Closed December 25

American School will be closed Monday, December 25, and reopen with normal business hours on Tuesday, December 26.  We know that many students in our correspondence high school diploma program, online high school diploma program and online middle school program have set goals for themselves to complete work by the end of the calendar year, and we will do our best to ensure they meet their goals.  One way we will do that is by being open between Christmas and New Year's.  We look forward to serving you when we return to work on Tuesday.

Today’s Special Occasion: The First Day of Winter

It's December 21, and today is the first day of winter.  Perhaps you feel like your education is in the middle of winter with not much happening, or perhaps you're thinking about summer and all the fun you want to have after you graduate.  Either way, our high school correspondence courses and online high school courses can help.  Enroll in an accredited high school program and one day earn your American School diploma.  Enroll in independent study high school programs for credit recovery if you plan on earning your diploma from another school.  Don't be left out in the cold without an education.  Enroll with us today!

Today’s Anniversary: The Louisiana Purchase

It's December 20, and the Louisiana Purchase was completed on this date in 1803.  The land acquired in the deal nearly doubled the size of the United States and is regarded as one of the best purchases in history.  You can make a great purchase of your own by enrolling with us.  We offer a correspondence high school diploma program and an online high school diploma for adults or children.  We also offer individual high school or middle school courses for credit recovery or enrichment.  Let us be your school of choice.  Enroll today!

Today’s Anniversary: Valley Forge

It's December 19, and on this date in 1777, George Washington and the Continental Army began their winter encampment at Valley Forge.  As we've said many times before in this blog, visiting historic sites is a great way to make your high school correspondence courses, online high school courses and online middle school courses come to life.  Valley Forge is one such place.  Keep checking this blog to see where we recommend you visit next.

American School Closing at Noon December 19

American School will close at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 19, for a special event.  We will reopen with our normal hours on Wednesday, December 20.  Although we will have different hours than normal, students can always email us for assistance, and we will reply to those emails as quickly as possible.  We're pleased that so many students are taking high school independent study courses or online middle school courses with us while others are in our online high school diploma program or correspondence high school diploma program.  No matter your program, we're happy to serve you!

American School at 120 (Part 5)

As we conclude our look at 120 years of American School history in advance of our 120th anniversary this coming Sunday, December 17, we can't help but thank the most important people in the last 12 decades–our students.  Whether they complete a general high school or college preparatory program or enroll in our correspondence or online high school diploma program or enroll in our independent study programs, we're happy to have them as our students.  We strive to offer the best educational experience possible, and we have exciting things planned as we head into our next decade.  Soon we'll have paper-based middle school courses, a new web site, and new academic programs.  We're proud of our past and ready for a bright future.  To be a part of one of the oldest and best distance learning schools, enroll today.  We'd be proud to have you as our student and prepare you for a bright future of your own.
