American School Closed March 30, Blog Returns April 9

American School will be closed Friday, March 30.  We will reopen with normal business hours on Monday, April 2.  Although American School will be back in business on Monday, our blog is taking a break until Monday, April 9.  While we're gone, our students should continue to work on their online high school courses, high school correspondence courses and online middle school courses.  Our staff will be here to support you every step of the way.  Thank you for reading this blog, and we look forward to returning with new blog posts 10 days from now!

2018 Convention #6: NSBA Conference

As if going to Cincinnati and Kansas City wasn't enough next week, we're also headed to San Antonio, not for the Final Four this weekend but for the National School Boards Association Conference.  We'll be in booth 746 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center on April 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on April 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and we're excited to meet school board members from across the country and describe our accredited high school program, accredited middle school program and high school independent study program to them.  It'll be a busy week for us, but we're proud to serve different groups of people in different parts of the country.  If you miss us at a convention next week, stay tuned.  We'll attend more conventions soon and we hope to see you there!

2018 Convention #5: Midwest Parent Educators Conference

Today we continue our convention previews with the Midwest Parent Educators Conference in Kansas City, Missouri.  We'll be in booth 804 at the KCI Expo Center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 6 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 7.  We've enjoyed attending this convention for three years running.  One of the best things about this show is that it attracts people not only from Kansas and Missouri but also from neighboring states.  They all come to learn more about homeschooling, and many of them want to earn a high school diploma at home.  They can do so with our accredited high school courses online or accredited high school courses on paper.  Others want to take individual courses to enrich an existing homeschool program, and we're happy to make those available too.  Come see us in Kansas City, and come read this blog tomorrow to find out our third destination next week!

2018 Convention #4: NCEA

This week our blog is previewing three conventions we'll be attending in the first week of April.  First up is the NCEA convention from April 3-5 in Cincinnati.  Catholic educators from across the United States are invited to stop by booth 740 at the Duke Energy Convention Center.  We'll be there on April 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; April 4 from 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.; and April 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  As usual, we'll have information about our online high school courses, high school correspondence courses and online middle school courses.  Many Catholic schools use those courses for credit recovery or to avoid scheduling conflicts.  We're happy to have their students in our independent study high school program and help them graduate from high school on time with their classes.  Keep reading this blog tomorrow and Wednesday to learn where else we're headed next week!

Today’s Anniversary: The Otis Elevator

It's March 23, and on this date in 1857, Elisha Otis installed his first elevator.  Today Otis elevators are in buildings all over the world, including two at the American School's office.  As you know, elevators can take you to new heights if you're standing on the ground floor.  Maybe you're on the ground floor with your education, or you're somewhere in the middle and wish to go to the highest possible floor and earn a high school diploma at home.  Whatever your situation, American School would be proud to serve you and have you as our student.  If you've previously completed some high school courses, send us a transcript from your previous school.  We'll evaluate it and let you know what high school correspondence courses or online high school courses you'll need to take in order to earn your diploma from American School.  We're accredited by three major accrediting bodies, so your diploma would carry the same merit and value as a diploma from a traditional school.  Get on board with American School and enroll today.  You'll be glad you did!

2018 Convention #3: ASCD Empower 18

We're shipping off to Boston this week for our third convention of 2018.  We're happy to exhibit at ASCD Empower 18 at the Boston Convention Center, and we're looking forward to meeting curriculum developers from around the country at this annual event.  We'll be in booth 1540 on March 24 and March 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. both days and on March 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Our course developers are creating and revising high school correspondence courses and paper-based middle school courses on a regular basis, and you'll see the fruits of their labor later this spring.  At the same time, we're continuing to refine our online high school courses and online middle school courses, so please keep those in mind as well.  Attending events like ASCD Empower 18 will help us give you an even better educational experience, and your satisfaction and success are top priorities for us.  We hope to see many curriculum developers in Boston and see many more of you at a convention in early April.  Stay tuned to our blog next week to see where we are headed next!

Today’s Birthday: Twitter

It's March 21, and Twitter was founded on this date in 2006.  Today's blog, which is longer than 140 or 280 characters, is a reminder that we have a presence on Twitter.  You can find us there @as_hsdiploma.  We're also on Facebook.  You can find us there @americanschoolofcorrespondence.  We're happy to reach people in our online high school diploma program, correspondence high school diploma program or independent study high school program on social media, and you can bet we will post information about our middle school correspondence courses on Twitter and Facebook as soon as they become available.  In the meantime, we're proud to offer online middle school courses to students in grades 6-8.  Thank you for following us on Twitter and Facebook, and tell someone you know to do the same!

Today’s Special Occasion: The First Day of Spring

It's March 20, and today is the first day of spring.  Spring is a season of new beginnings, so today is the perfect day to begin something new.  If you're wondering about enrolling in our online high school courses, high school correspondence courses and online middle school courses, why not enroll today?  Not only will grass, trees and flowers grow in spring, but your knowledge will grow during the season as well.  If you enroll today, you could even have a course or two complete by the first day of summer since all of our students work at their own pace.  Make the first day of spring one to remember and become our student today!

Today’s Anniversary: Time Zones

It's March 19, and 100 years ago today, the United States Congress established time zones.  American School is located in the central time zone, and that's something for you to keep in mind if you need to call us.  We're happy to help students in our correspondence high school diploma program, online high school diploma program and independent study high school program over the phone during our regular business hours.  Everyone is welcome to email us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we will reply to those emails within one business day.  We're thankful you took the time to read this blog and even more than thankful for the opportunity to serve you!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from American School!

St. Patrick's Day is Saturday, but we're closed that day, so our blog is celebrating St. Patrick's Day today.  Green is the traditional color of St. Patrick's Day, and taking our courses will save you plenty of green.  As a non-profit school, we keep costs as low as possible.  Tuition for our high school correspondence courses and soon our middle school correspondence courses includes all study materials.  You don't have to buy books or other materials.  They are included in the cost of tuition.  Tuition for our online high school courses and online middle school courses includes all study materials as well.  If you take a package of courses with us to complete a grade or earn a high school diploma at home, you'll save more money than if you take courses individually, and monthly payment plans are available.  Celebrate St. Patrick's Day by wearing green and saving green.  Enroll with us today!
