Today the American School is regionally accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI). NCA CASI is, along with its sister organization, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), an accreditation division of AdvancED, an organization dedicated to advancing excellence in education worldwide. The North Central Association first accredited us in 1974, making us the first private home study high school to earn accreditation by a regional accrediting body, and we are proud this accreditation continues to the present day. Recently the American School expanded its presence within two national education programs. Our membership in the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) allows us to network with educators from across the country, and our partnership with America’s Promise Alliance helps ensure that all students have an opportunity to earn a high school diploma. In March 2011, we attended the Building a Grad Nation Summit, which was co-hosted by America’s Promise Alliance as a kickoff of their 10-year Grad Nation campaign. Prominent speakers included United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and former Florida governor Jeb Bush. |

We are also pleased that several homeschool students and organizations have recognized us by giving us their seals of approval or other awards. In 2012, the American School once again earned Homeschool.com’s seal of approval (shown top left), and, for the first time, we received the Home Educators' Resource Directory seal of approval (shown bottom left). We are also the proud recipients of two Practical Homeschooling 2011 Reader Awards. Our Introduction to Computers course earned third place in the Computer Science category, and our Consumer Economics course earned third place in the Personal Finance category. We are very grateful for these honors from these homeschool students and organizations. They are proof of our consistent efforts to give our students the best courses we can. http://www.homeschool.com/resources/AmericanSchool/default.asp http://www.homeeddirectory.com

Our 77-year affiliation with the Better Business Bureau of Chicago and Northern Illinois demonstrates our consistent efforts to give students and schools the best service we can, as well. Our A+ grade is the highest a business can receive under the BBB's new rating system, which replaces the previous 'satisfactory' or 'unsatisfactory' rating. Letter grades are calculated by computer using a ratings formula that takes into account 17 weighted factors, the largest single factor being the company's overall complaint history with the BBB. We are proud of our 77-year affiliation with the BBB and even prouder to receive this A+ rating. View our listing here:
