INDEPENDENT STUDY DIVISION
Independent (correspondence) Study is a complete educational service supplied by the American School for day and evening high schools and adult and continuing education programs. It is used to supplement local curricula and to meet certain needs and interests of individual students which might be impractical for schools to meet in the normal group-learning situation. Its flexibility and range of over 65 subjects offer an effective response to some of the problems facing the resident school administrator. When there are people in school who must make up credits to graduate on time, American School courses provide a way to make up credits that is reliable, practical, and inexpensive. Students do their work at home with no interruption of regular class schedules. The program is administered easily. It does the job. American School offers a complete educational service: personalized instruction by qualified teachers, unlimited consultation, textbooks and study guides, final examinations and transcripts of credit. From the time of enrollment until the student's course grade is certified, little is required of the local school staff except to supply a proctor for the end-of-course examination which is furnished and graded by American School. The minimum time for completion is five weeks per course consecutively, the maximum time one year (renewal possible). Local school deadlines must be met within these guidelines. |
