ONLINE ENROLLMENT APPLICATION FOR INDEPENDENT STUDY PROGRAM

Course Information
Courses labeled as “full unit” are worth one Carnegie unit but can be divided into one semester for a half-unit of credit. Prices for semesters of full unit paper-based courses are obtained by dividing the price of the full unit course in half and then adding $25. Courses labeled as “half unit” are worth one half Carnegie unit (non-online courses).

To learn more about our online courses, visit www.americanschool.org/online-learning.  Read the document near the top of that page to ensure your computer meets the system requirements for taking online courses.  The online Algebra 2 and Geometry courses require completion of Algebra 1. The online Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry courses require completion of Algebra 2. The online Pre-Algebra course requires no previous algebra credits.

Notes
Algebra 2, Geometry, Chemistry, Physics and Fundamentals of Electricity have an Algebra 1 prerequisite for enrollment.

Other Useful Information
If this is the first time a student enrolls, a $30 enrollment fee must be added to the total cost of the application.  For subsequent enrollments of the same student, the enrollment fee is waived.

Refund Policy
For paper-based courses, all requests for cancellation must be made in writing within 90 days of enrollment.  If no exams have been submitted, we will retain the $30.00 enrollment fee and $50.00 per course for textbooks and study guides.  If any exams have been submitted in a course, full tuition will be charged and no refunds made.

For online courses, all requests for cancellation must be made in writing within 90 days of enrollment.  If no modules or levels have been submitted, we will retain the $50.00 for administration fees. If any modules or levels have been submitted in a course, full tuition will be charged and no refunds made.  A module or level is a course section that can consist of lessons, discussions, lab/text questions, quizzes and/or posttests.

Enrollments may not be transferred from one student to another.

The minimum enrollment period for completion is 5 weeks per course consecutively; thus, 10 weeks for two courses, 15 weeks for three courses, etc.  The maximum time for completion in paper-based courses is 1 year from the date of enrollment (yearly renewal is possible).  The maximum time for completion in online courses is six months for a half-unit online course and 12 months for a full unit course.  If all course requirements are not fulfilled during that time period, students must re-enroll for the course at the full tuition price. Please note that these courses contain study materials equivalent to a half of full unit of course credit.  Students should plan adequate time to complete all exams and assignments.  Local school deadlines must be met within these guidelines.

Tuition must be paid in full before transcript of credit is sent.

The school official requests that American School provide an end-of-course exam for each course to be administered locally upon successful completion of the paper-based unit exams or online course modules.  End-of-course exams are not available for online World Language courses.


A transcript of credit will be provided when all study guide exams and end-of-course exams, if required, have been successfully completed, and tuition is paid in full.
