Today’s Birthday: Bugs Bunny

It's July 27, and Bugs Bunny made his movie debut in a film called A Wild Hare on this date in 1940.  You might say that today is Bugs Bunny's 80th birthday and are probably familiar with his "What's up, doc?" catchphrase.  Today, then, is a good opportunity for us to tell you what's up at American School, especially since families are looking for safe educational programs for the 2020-2021 school year.  We continue to offer accredited high school courses online and in print at a cost students and parents can afford.  We do the same with accredited print or online middle school courses.  Affordability has always been important to us since we believe nobody should be denied an education for financial reasons, but offering affordable courses does not mean they are inferior.  In fact, the quality of our instructional materials has made us one of the best distance education high schools and middle schools in the world.  We use the same type of curriculum providers used by schools across the country.  Students may enroll any time and finish any time during their contracts.  We allow students to work at their own pace and offer support when needed.  Some enroll in full-year programs, while others enroll in individual courses.  Whatever works best for you is fine with us.  We are happy to assist you however we can.  What we mentioned here is just a sampling of all the good things we offer.  Discover all of them  after you enroll today!

Testimonial Thursday

It's Thursday, so we have a testimonial from one of our students.  Devin from Michigan writes, "I liked the fact that my instructors commented on my exams.  It added a personal touch.  They also gave me hope that I was doing ok.  I also liked the self-check tests.  They just added that little extra chance to know the material more thoroughly."  We thank Devin for those words.  Although we are a distance education high school and middle school, we try to make distance education as personal as possible.  Devin correctly noted that we add personalized comments on every exam we grade.  We offer accredited high school courses online and in print as well as print and online middle school courses, and we are happy to help our students succeed.  You can join them by enrolling today!

Today’s Anniversary: Pennsylvania

It's December 12, and Pennsylvania became a state on this date in 1787.  Today we wish to discuss homeschooling regulations in different states.  While we do offer accredited high school courses online and in print and an accredited middle school program, it's important to remember that each state has its own homeschooling regulations.  These regulations can include providing records of what you have done, determining how much state aid you may obtain for your college education and much more.  We strongly suggest you check with your state to learn its regulations before you enroll with us.  We are happy to assist you however we can, but we must be respectful of regulations set forth by individual states.  Since we are located in Illinois, we follow Illinois standards when we determine how many courses students need to graduate, how many credits students need in a certain subject area and more.  Thank you for understanding and for making us your distance education high school or middle school.

Today’s Birthday: Gertrude Ederle

It's October 23, and Gertrude Ederle was born on this date in 1905.  When our Writing 1 and Writing 2 courses were in production, we included an excerpt about the life of Gertrude Ederle, who became the first woman to swim across the English Channel.  Not only did her story make for interesting reading and writing, but it can also serve as an inspiration to our students.  Perhaps you feel like you're on one side of a body of water and you need to get to the other to have the life you've always wanted.  Our accredited high school courses online or in print can help you get there.  Unlike Gertrude Ederle, who swam by herself, you'll have the support of our instructors and entire staff while you work to earn a high school diploma at home.  Like Gertrude Ederle, you'll be able to go at your own pace and move through our accredited high school program as quickly or as slowly as you need.  Dip your toe in the water and enroll today!

Transcript-Based Alternative Methods of Credentialing

Today's blog is about Transcript-Based Alternative Methods of Credentialing.  If you click the link we've included in this blog, you'll learn what they are and see American School listed as an approved curriculum provider by the Illinois Community College Board.  If you live in another state, you should check with your local board to see if we are approved there as well.  We are happy to provide high school correspondence courses and online high school courses to anyone who wants to take them for any reason.   We offer accredited high school courses online and in print to ensure that you have the course delivery method that is comfortable to you.  Please contact us if you have any questions about how we can serve you.  We are happy to help you reach your educational goals!

American School Closed Monday, October 14

American School will be closed Monday, October 14, in observance of Columbus Day.  We will reopen with regular business hours on Tuesday, October 15.  If you're willing to explore something new, why not consider enrolling with us?  We offer accredited high school courses online or in print and offer similar courses in our accredited middle school program.  Take them collectively to complete full grades or earn a high school diploma at home, or take them individually as part of an independent study high school program or simply for your own enrichment.  We'd be happy to have you as our student!

New Biology Course Available

Today we are pleased to announced that a new Biology course is available to students.  This high school correspondence class replaces the previous version and is the basis for our lab and non-lab biology courses.  The lab kit for the lab version of the course remains the same.  We are happy to offer a wide variety of high school correspondence courses for those who wish to study on paper, and we are also happy to offer a wide variety of accredited high school courses online for those who wish to study on a computer.  No matter which course delivery method you choose, we are glad you made us your school of choice for courses in grades 6-12!

2019 Convention #17: California Homeschool Convention

After spending last weekend at home, we're back on the road this week when we attend the California Homeschool Convention.  Come see us in booth 602 at the Ontario Convention Center on June 13 from 5 to 9 p.m.; on June 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; and on June 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.  We will have plenty of details about how you can earn a high school diploma at home or enroll in our accredited middle school program.  Some students prefer to take accredited high school courses online, while others prefer to take high school correspondence courses.  The same options are available for students in grades 6-8.  We are happy to offer outstanding curriculum in print and online and do so at a very affordable cost.  We've always enjoyed our convention trips to California and are expecting this one to be no different.  Come see us later this week!

Important Announcement Coming Monday

We admit that today's blog is a tease, but we're very excited about an announcement we have for you on Monday.  As you know, we spent more than a century offering high school correspondence courses.  Don't worry…we have no plans to stop offering high school or middle school courses in print.  A few years ago we began to offer accredited high school courses online, and then we offered online middle school courses.  Students have enjoyed taking online courses with us in recent years, but we're always looking for ways to improve students' experiences with us.  We think we've found a great way to make our online courses even better, and we can't wait to share it with you on Monday.  Check back then to see what we have in store!

2019 Convention #6: ISCA Rosemont Conference

Just like last week, we're attending two conventions this week.  The first is the Illinois School Counselor Association Conference in Rosemont.  We'll be in booth 40 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center on April 4 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. to visit with counselors from around Chicagoland.  Many schools take advantage of our independent study high school programs which are perfect for credit recovery.  Others might be interested in our print or online high school diploma program which is perfect for the potential dropout.  Either way, we're happy to serve these counselors and their students with our accredited high school courses online or in print.  We always enjoy visiting with counselors who use us, but we particularly enjoy visiting with those counselors whose schools are close by our office.  If you're planning on attending the ISCA Conference in Rosemont, stop by and say hello.  We'd love to renew acquaintances or introduce ourselves to you!
