2019 Convention #13: THSC Dallas Convention

We're kicking off a new week of blogs by previewing a convention coming up later this week.  We're going to attend the Texas Home School Coalition Convention at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel.  Come visit us in booth 306 on May 9 from 5 to 7 p.m., on May 10 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on May 11 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Stop by and learn about our accredited high school program and accredited middle school program.  We'll have information about both programs as well as information about taking middle school or high school independent study courses for enrichment.  We've attended this convention for many years, though this is the first time it will be held at the Sheraton Dallas.  We're confident that residents of North Texas will turn out in great numbers, and we'd love to say howdy to you when you stop by our booth!

2019 Convention #5: NSBA Conference

Yesterday's blog contained information about the first convention we're attending this week, the Missouri Homeschool Convention in St. Charles.  In this blog we're happy to announce that we're attending the National School Boards Assocation Annual Conference at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia as well.  We'll be in booth 217 on March 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on March 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  School board members who visit our booth might be interested in our high school independent study courses which can be used to improve graduation rates in their districts.  We'll also have information about our paper-based high school diploma program and our online high school diploma program, both of which can be helpful to potential dropouts.  As one of the leading distance education high schools and middle schools, we enjoy attending national conferences and meeting people from all corners of the country, but sometimes travel can be tiring.  That's why we're excited about having a presence at a convention that doesn't involve travel.  Check back tomorrow to see what we mean!

Testimonial Thursday

It's another Testimonial Thursday, and today we have one from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, a city that was featured in last Friday's blog.  Jess writes, "I feel that the Understanding English 2 course was great as a second chance for me to get my diploma when I was denied that chance in school.  Thank you!"  Jess's testimonial points out that we are a second-chance school.  If you're behind at your traditional high school and need to make up a course or two, consider our high school independent study courses.  You can take them and graduate on time with your class.  If you're older and dropped out of school, you can earn a high school diploma at home.  Work as your schedule allows and graduate as quickly as possible with the help of our general high school or college preparatory program.  Visit our enrollment page, select the program of your choice, and get started toay.  We're happy to give you the second chance you need to graduate from high school!

2019 Convention #1: WSCA Conference

It's February 4, and tomorrow we kick off our 2019 convention season with a trip to the Wisconsin School Counselor Association Conference in Madison.  Guests are invited to visit us at table 38 at the Monona Terrace on February 5 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., February 6 from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and February 7 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.  At the WSCA Conference we'll have information about high school independent study courses that students may take as part of one of the leading independent study high school programs anywhere in the world.  We hope to reconnect with counselors who already use our services as well as meet new ones who might be interested in having the American School help their students graduate from high school.  We'll also bring along some details about our accredited middle school program in case counselors who serve students in grades 6-8 attend the show too.  We've enjoyed attending the WSCA Conference for many years running, and we're looking forward to another great event in the Badger State this year.  Come join us!

2018 Convention #22: Missouri MSCA Fall Conference

About a week ago we attended one MSCA Fall Conference, and this week we're attending another.  Instead of heading northeast to Michigan, we're heading southwest to Missouri for the Missouri School Counselor Association Fall Conference.  Counselors in the Show Me State are invited to visit us at the Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach on November 4 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and November 5 from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  We'll be there to promote our independent study high school program which contains high school independent study courses for credit recovery or enrichment in grades 9-12.  We'll also have details about our print and online high school diploma programs available.  We've attended this conference regularly for the last few years and have always enjoyed our visit.  Help us make this year's trip memorable by stopping by our booth.  We'd love to meet you!

2018 Convention #21: Michigan MSCA Fall Conference

In addition to the AMLE Conference in Orlando, we're attending the Michigan School Counselor Association Fall Conference this weekend at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing.  We'll be leading a Spartan lifestyle and meeting counselors for most of the day on October 28 and October 29.  Students in Michigan and in fact all 50 states take high school independent study courses with us for credit recovery or because of scheduling conflicts, and we want to introduce their counselors to our services.  In addition, some counselors may have students who are potential dropouts, and we want to inform them of our online high school diploma program and correspondence high school diploma program as well.  This will be our first trip to this conference in several years, and we're looking forward to making it a memorable one.  Come join us in East Lansing, and come back here for our next blog post on October 30!

Today’s Anniversary: Louisiana

It's April 30, and Louisiana became a state on this date in 1812.  We've been to several conventions in Louisiana over the years, often visiting with counselors to promote our independent study high school programs consisting of online high school courses and high school correspondence courses.  On our next trip, we'll mention our accredited middle school program as well.  We're happy to help counselors not only in Louisiana but also in all 50 states and more than 65 countries around the world.  Our high school independent study courses help ensure students graduate on time, including many who will be graduating in the coming weeks.  No matter where you live, we're happy to serve you!

2018 Convention #9: ISCA Rosemont

Last week we attended the ISCA Annual Conference in Springfield, and this Friday we're attending the ISCA Conference in Rosemont.  The Illinois School Counselors Association holds two conventions each year, and we're happy to attend both.  We look forward to meeting counselors at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center all day on April 20.  School counselors from our home state enroll their students in high school independent study courses so they can graduate on time with their classes.  Others may participate in our independent study high school program due to scheduling conflicts or to get ahead.  Whatever the reason, we're happy to serve them, and we'd be happy to serve you as well.  Enroll now!

Today’s Special Occasion: The Ides of March

It's March 15, and today is the Ides of March.  Some of you may be familiar with the phrase "Beware the Ides of March" if you've read the play Julius Caesar or know some history about Julius Caesar himself, but the Ides of March has a different significance for students in our independent study high school program who are taking high school independent study courses to graduate on time with their classes this year or recover credits so they can be promoted to the next grade.  While we allow students to enroll any time, it is very difficult for students who enroll after March 15 to have their course or courses completed in time to graduate this year.  That's because our high school correspondence courses and online high school courses contain several exams or projects, and students need to spend time mastering each lesson or unit before taking those exams or completing those projects.  Ideally students would have all of their work submitted to us by early April, though we are here to grade exams as quickly and accurately as possible all throughout the year.  We enjoy having the opportunity to serve you and help you earn a high school diploma however we can!

Today’s Special Occasion: Boxing Day

It's December 26, and today is Boxing Day, a holiday observed in many countries but not in the United States.  As you might expect, American School goes through a LOT of boxes shipping high school correspondence courses to our students, but we're happy to ship books and study materials to all 50 states and more than 65 countries around the world, including many countries which celebrate Boxing Day today.  Some students receive boxes of books to complete a correspondence high school diploma program, while others receive smaller boxes because they are taking one or two high school independent study courses.  If you're worried about attending a distance education high school, think outside the box and enroll today.  Your first box of courses will arrive shortly, and we'll be happy to have you as our student!
