Today’s Special Occasion: The First Day of Winter

It's December 21, and today is the first day of winter.  Perhaps you feel like your education is in the middle of winter with not much happening, or perhaps you're thinking about summer and all the fun you want to have after you graduate.  Either way, our high school correspondence courses and online high school courses can help.  Enroll in an accredited high school program and one day earn your American School diploma.  Enroll in independent study high school programs for credit recovery if you plan on earning your diploma from another school.  Don't be left out in the cold without an education.  Enroll with us today!

2017 National Spelling Bee

The finals of the 2017 National Spelling Bee take place tonight near Washington, D.C.  As you watch, you'll be amazed at how students figure out how to spell complex words, but the skills they are displaying are the same ones you'll learn if you take our Spelling course.  We're happy to include it among our accredited high school courses which help make us a leading distance education high school.  Some students take the course while trying to earn a high school diploma at home, while others take our spelling course through our independent study high school programs.  Enrolling in the course is as easy as A-B-C, so we invite you to do so today!

American School to Attend WSCA Conference

American School will exhibit at the WSCA Conference from February 21-23 in Madison, Wisconsin.  We will be at table 7 in the Grand Terrace at the Hilton Monona Terrace from 4- 6 p.m. on February 21; from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on February 22; and from 8-11 a.m. on February 23.  We're excited to meet school counselors from our neighbors to the north and will be promoting our independent study high school programs and accredited middle school program.  Counselors use our independent study high school courses and middle school courses for credit recovery or enrichment.  If a student needs one course to advance to the next grade or graduate, we'd be happy to assist him or her, and these conferences help us serve more students.  Check back very soon to learn where else we're headed in February!

Today’s Birthday: William Hunding

It's January 30, the birthday of past American School President William Hunding.  He worked for American School full-time for nearly 40 years and remained a trustee after his retirement in 2006 until his death in 2013.  During his tenure, American School solidified its place as a top distance education high school.  We expanded our correspondence high school diploma program and added more high school correspondence courses to help those interested in independent study high school programs.  Today we've built on Mr. Hunding's work and have online high school courses and online middle school courses, and in the fall we'll add paper-based middle school courses.  We think he'd be proud of the school we've become, and we're happy to remember him on his birthday.

American School To Make First Trip to MSCA Fall Conference

American School is pleased to make its first appearance at the Missouri School Counselor Association Fall Conference on November 6-7 at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach.  We'll be at table 51 on November 6 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on November 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon. to discuss our independent study high school programs and accredited middle school program with those in attendance.  We'll also have information about our online high school diploma and correspondence high school diploma programs on hand just in case counselors might find that information useful to them and their students as well.  We've heard nothing but great things about the MSCA Fall Conference and are looking forward to meeting counselors from our neighbor to the west at this event.

Looking Back at 10 Years of ASCA Conferences

Yesterday's blog about the ASCA Conference this weekend in New Orleans got us thinking about previous ASCA events, and we realized that this year is the 10th anniversary of us having a booth at the ASCA Conference, making it our longest continuously attended show.  We've enjoyed meeting school counselors in Chicago, Denver, Atlanta, Dallas, Boston, Seattle, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Orlando and Phoenix and now look forward to adding New Orleans to that list.  Counselors are excited to learn about credit recovery through our independent study high school programs and dropout recovery through our correspondence high school diploma program or a diploma program with the best online high school courses, and we're just as excited to meet counselors in person and hear ideas on how we can become an even better distance education high school.  A lot has changed in a decade, including our recent addition of online middle school courses as part of an accredited middle school program, and we'll continue to look back on what's happened since 2006 in our Monday blog.

Online Exams Available in Four Subjects

American School is pleased to announce the availability of online exams in four high school correspondence courses.  Students taking Business Law, Business English, Home Repair and Maintenance and Sociology now have the option of taking their exams online or doing them on paper.  This option is available for the vast majority of our paper-based courses and is perfect if you're in our general high school program, college preparatory program or independent study high school programs.  If you haven't enrolled yet, do so today!
