Today’s Anniversary: Wyoming

It's July 10, and Wyoming became a state on this date in 1890.  As you know, we serve students in all 50 states, which means we have many students from Wyoming.  That said, we cannot recall ever visiting Wyoming to attend a convention or meet students in person.  It's a goal of ours to get to as many states as possible, and so we do hope to visit Wyoming and perhaps see Yellowstone National Park as soon as we can.   One prominent feature of Yellowstone National Park is Old Faithful, a geyser that's been spouting water on a regular basis for hundreds of years.  The American School might be considered an Old Faithful as well since we've remained true to our distance education roots since 1897.  No matter where you live, you can enjoy our print or online college preparatory program, our print or online general high school program or our accredited middle school program.  We'll be faithful to you and help you earn a high school diploma at home.  Enroll today!

Today’s Special Occasion: The First Day of Summer

It's June 21, and today is the first day of summer.  Many people do not think about school at all during the summer.  Instead they choose to focus on nice warm weather, trips to the beach, vacations and more.  All of those things are perfectly fine, but many American School students opt to focus on school during the summer months.  Some may take individual subjects through an independent study high school program so that they can recover credits in time for the start of the next school year.  Others who enroll in a print or online college preparatory program or print or online general high school program may want to work ahead so that they can graduate earlier than expected.  Some may enroll in print or online middle school courses to get a head start on their peers.  We are open 12 months a year and accept enrollments 12 months a year.  If you are ready to make us your distance education high school or middle school, we invite you to enroll and make the first day of summer memorable.  If you do so, there's a good chance you'll have your first course completed by the first day of fall!

Testimonial Thursday

Today we have a testimonial from Yesika who lives in New York.  She writes, "The American School is quite simply the best school in the United States of America and I am extremely blessed to be a student at the American School.  Thank you again for all your kindness throughout my school year. You inspire your students to learn, but more importantly you inspire your students to dream."  We thank Yesika for those words.  We strive to be the best distance education high school and middle school we can be.  We do so by offering a print and online college preparatory program, a print and online general high school program and an accredited middle school program, but many other schools offer the same things.  So what separates us from them?  One is the quality of instructors and staff that Yesika mentioned in her comments.  We inspire students to be the best students and people they can be.  We genuinely care about students and their well-being.  See for yourself by enrolling today!

2019 Convention #16: ICHE Family Conference

American School is pleased to exhibit for the first time at the Illinois Christian Home Educators Family Conference this weekend at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais.  Stop by and see us in booth 64 on May 30 from 4 to 7:30 p.m.; on May 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and on June 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  We will have information about our print and online college preparatory program, print and online general high school program and accredited middle school program.  If you want to take individual subjects to supplement what you're already doing, we'll tell you how we can assist you there as well.  We are looking forward to making the short drive south and introducing new people to our services.  Speaking of new services, check back later this week and on Monday for news about something big happening with our online high school courses and online middle school courses.  We're excited about it and think you will be as well.

2019 Convention #11: OCHEC Convention

As has been the case several times so far in 2019, this weekend we're attending two conventions.  The first is the Oklahoma Home Educators Convention in Oklahoma City.  We'll be at the Cox Convention Center on May 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on May 3 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Stop by and learn about our print or online college preparatory program and our print or online general high school program, both of which lead to a student earning an accredited high school diploma.  We'll also have information about our accredited middle school program and are happy to share how families take our courses on an individual basis to supplement an existing homeschool program.  We hope that you'll see us sooner or later in the Sooner State and decide to make us your distance education high school or middle school.  Check back later this week to learn where else we're headed this weekend.

Today’s Birthday: Coach K

It's February 13, and Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski turns 72 years old today.  Better known as Coach K, he has led Duke to five national championships and served as head coach of the United States Olympic teams that won gold medals in 2008, 2012 and 2016.  Basketball aside, Duke is consistently ranked among the nation's top universities, and it's not uncommon for American School graduates to attend high-quality universities all across the country.  Sometimes people think that students who earn a high school diploma at home have no chance at being accepted to elite schools.  That is simply not true.  Each college has its own admissions criteria.  Often schools will look at a student's academic record, extracurricular activities, test scores and more while deciding whether or not to accept the student.  Choosing the right college is not a slam dunk for most students, but our print or online college preparatory program offers you the accredited high school courses you need to be successful at whatever school interests you. Our guidance department is here to assist you if you have any questions about the college admissions process, and we're proud to offer scholarships to some of our graduates who wish to further their educations at accredited schools.  We are here to help you become successful both in high school and beyond, so tip off your American School career by enrolling with us today!

Last Day To Enroll in AP Courses for 2018-19

It's September 28, and today is the deadline to enroll in AP courses for the 2018-19 school year.  You can find an enrollment application and other information on our AP page.  AP courses have been a great addition to our curriculum.  Students have added them to their online college preparatory program or have taken them as part of an independent study high school program.  While today is the last day to enroll in AP courses for this school year, we're already thinking about the 2019-20 school year.  We plan to reopen enrollment in AP courses in July 2019, and we may even add a few new AP courses to our curriculum.  Stay tuned as we are always striving to become an even better distance education high school!
