Today’s Anniversary: The United States Census

It's March 1, and the first United States Census was taken on this date way back in 1790.  If we counted up all of the students who have taken our accredited high school courses online or on paper over the years, that number would be more than 3 million.  That's more than every city in the United States except for New York and Los Angeles!  We're proud to have students from coast to coast working on an online high school diploma program, paper-based accredited high school program, high school independent study program, or accredited middle school program.  At American School, you're more than just a number.  We take sincere interest in our students' learning and offer the best curriculum and support we possibly can.  Count yourselves among our students by enrolling today!

Ryan Hartman Heads to Nashville

Yesterday former American School student Ryan Hartman was traded from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Nashville Predators.  While we enjoyed watching Ryan play for our hometown team, we know he'll be successful in Music City for the rest of this season.  If your goal is to earn a high school diploma at home, American School can help you do that.  We have a wide variety of high school correspondence courses and online high school courses in our curriculum.  As a non-profit institution, we are able to keep tuition cost to an absolute minimum, and monthly payment plans are available to students in our paper-based or online high school diploma program.  If you're ready to break the ice and enroll, we encourage you to do so today!

Reminder About Credits from Previous Schools

Many times people want to enroll in our online high school diploma program or correspondence high school diploma program after they have earned credits at another school.  In these cases, as stated on our FAQ page, we ask that you send us an official transcript from your previous school.  We'll evaluate it and let you know what credits will transfer to us and count toward your diploma.  We'll also let you know what credits you'll have to do with us and how much it will cost for you to earn a high school diploma at home with us.  Please note that until you have enrolled and become our student, we cannot request a transcript for you.  You must request and send us a transcript yourself if you have not formally enrolled with us.  We appreciate your cooperation and are happy to have you as our student!

Caroline Wozniacki Wins Australian Open, Now Ranked #1

American School student Caroline Wozniacki won the Australian Open on Saturday and became the #1 player in the world this morning.  Her 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 win over Simona Halep was her first major title, and all of us congratulate her on these outstanding accomplishments.  Sometimes people ask us if we rank our students and determine who is #1 in a particular class, and the answer to that question is no.  Because we allow students to earn a correspondence high school diploma or graduate from our online high school diploma program year-round, it is impossible for us to rank students.  We allow students to work at their own pace and provide them with the resources and support to do their very best.  We want all of our students to become champions in whatever field they decide to pursue, and our high school correspondence courses, online high school courses and online middle school courses can help them–and you–do just that.  Enroll today!

American School Closed December 25

American School will be closed Monday, December 25, and reopen with normal business hours on Tuesday, December 26.  We know that many students in our correspondence high school diploma program, online high school diploma program and online middle school program have set goals for themselves to complete work by the end of the calendar year, and we will do our best to ensure they meet their goals.  One way we will do that is by being open between Christmas and New Year's.  We look forward to serving you when we return to work on Tuesday.

American School Closing at Noon December 19

American School will close at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 19, for a special event.  We will reopen with our normal hours on Wednesday, December 20.  Although we will have different hours than normal, students can always email us for assistance, and we will reply to those emails as quickly as possible.  We're pleased that so many students are taking high school independent study courses or online middle school courses with us while others are in our online high school diploma program or correspondence high school diploma program.  No matter your program, we're happy to serve you!

American School at 120 (Part 5)

As we conclude our look at 120 years of American School history in advance of our 120th anniversary this coming Sunday, December 17, we can't help but thank the most important people in the last 12 decades–our students.  Whether they complete a general high school or college preparatory program or enroll in our correspondence or online high school diploma program or enroll in our independent study programs, we're happy to have them as our students.  We strive to offer the best educational experience possible, and we have exciting things planned as we head into our next decade.  Soon we'll have paper-based middle school courses, a new web site, and new academic programs.  We're proud of our past and ready for a bright future.  To be a part of one of the oldest and best distance learning schools, enroll today.  We'd be proud to have you as our student and prepare you for a bright future of your own.

Today’s Anniversary: San Jose

It's November 29, and city of San Jose was founded on this date in 1777.  We're excited to announce that we'll be visiting the San Jose area in 2018 to exhibit at a homeschool convention.  It'll be our first trip to that region, and we're looking forward to promoting our online high school diploma program, correspondence high school diploma program and accredited middle school program in northern California.  We're in the process of finalizing the rest of our 2018 convention schedule, and as usual we'll be promoting each of our appearances in this blog and on our Facebook and Twitter pages.  We look forward to visiting a city near you in 2018!

AP Courses Enrollment Still Available

Today's blog is a reminder that we are offering Advanced Placement courses in United States Government and Politics, United States History, Biology, Calculus AB and English Language and Composition.  These online high school courses can be a great addition to an existing online high school diploma program, or they can be taken through our independent study high school program.  Click here for more information!

American School Offers AP Courses

American School is pleased to offer five online Advanced Placement (AP) courses for the 2017-2018 academic year.  To ensure that students have sufficient time to learn material and prepare for their AP exams next spring, enrollment in these online high school courses is only available from September 11-29, with classes scheduled to start the first week of October.  All classes must be completed by April 27.  If you wish to enroll in our AP courses, either as a new student or as a current student who is adding courses to an existing correspondence high school diploma program or online high school diploma program, please read the link above and then send us an email to begin the enrollment process.  We look forward to serving you and think our AP courses are a great addition to our accredited high school program!
