American School at 120 (Part 3)

As we continue to celebrate our 120th anniversary, it's worth mentioning some of the educational organizations which we founded or with which we have been members over the years, as well as an example of how we help our students after they've graduated.  We were a charter member of the National Home Study Council.  We helped members of the United States Military during World War 2.  When the North Central Association accredited us, we became the first private home study high school to earn accreditation by a regional accrediting body.  When the Illinois State Board of Education recognized us, we became the first home-study school to receive such recognition.  We mention these organizations not to pat ourselves on the back but to give our students the comfort of knowing they are enrolled in an accredited high school program or accredited middle school program.  We take our accreditations and recognitions very seriously.  We also take our scholarship program seriously.  We've awarded scholarships to those who have earned our correspondence high school diploma or online high school diploma each year since 1938, and the scholarship meeting is one of the highlights of our year.  Check back tomorrow for more highlights of American School's 120 years of service!

Today’s Special Occasion: Cyber Monday

Today is Cyber Monday, the day that online retailers often give great deals to their customers.  The best deal you can give yourself today is to become an American School student.  Studies have shown that people who earn an online high school diploma or correspondence high school diploma make more money in their careers than people who did not complete an accredited high school program.  We offer a high school diploma online for adults or children as well as a diploma comprised of high school correspondence courses.  We also offer academic and dollar credit for courses completed at other accredited schools and provide excellent service to our students.  Make this Cyber Monday one to remember by enrolling and becoming our student!

American School Debuts New Online Business Math Course

American School is proud to release a new online Business Math course.  It's a great addition to our list of online high school courses, and completing it can give you one unit of credit toward finishing your accredited high school program and earning and online high school diploma.  We plan to offer additional courses and an expanded accredited middle school program in the coming months.  Keep checking this blog often starting Monday when it returns with a new post.

Today’s Anniversary: The First Letter from North America

It's August 3, and on this date in 1527, English explorer John Rut mailed the first letter ever sent from North America.  He sent the letter from Newfoundland in Canada back home to the United Kingdom, but not much else is known about him.  Nearly 500 years later, millions of letters a day are sent from North America to places all over the world.  American School has students in all 50 states and more than 65 countries, so we know what it's like to send mail.  It's how students were able to earn a high school diploma at home for more than a century before we started offering online high school courses.  We expanded our offerings to include online middle school courses, and this fall we'll debut middle school correspondence courses to go along with our high school correspondence courses.  We look forward to the day when we can send you your correspondence or online high school diploma in the mail!

Today’s Anniversary: Colorado

It's August 1, and Colorado became a state on this day in 1876.  We had the pleasure of attending two conventions in Colorado this year and were struck by the natural beauty of the state, especially the Rocky Mountains in the background as we explored downtown Denver.  Perhaps you feel the "mountain" of earning an online high school diploma or a correspondence high school diploma is too big a hill for you to climb.  That doesn't have to be the case.  You can earn a high school diploma at home after you enroll with us.  Work at your own pace while taking accredited high school courses that will prepare you for college or a career of your choice.  You'll have the support of our staff every step of the way as you ascend toward the summit of graduation.  Now is the perfect time to get started, so enroll today!

Today’s Anniversary: The Post Office

It's July 26, and on this date in 1775, the United States Post Office Department was established.  Lately there's been a lot of attention paid to our online high school diploma program and online middle school courses, and rightfully so since those programs offer students new ways to learn.  That said, we've offered a correspondence high school diploma program for decades, and we wouldn't be able to do that without the post office.  We mail students study materials, students mail us exams, we return students' graded exams, and ultimately a student completes an accredited high school program to earn a high school diploma at home entirely through the mail.  While online courses increase in popularity, a huge number of people want correspondence courses, and so we have no plans to discontinue sending paper courses through the mail.  In fact, we'll be adding more middle school and high school correspondence courses very soon.  Stay tuned!

Caroline Wozniacki Competes at Wimbledon

American School student Caroline Wozniacki reached the fourth round at Wimbledon before falling to Coco Vandeweghe of the United States in the round of 16 in straight sets.  In the first round, Caroline defeated Timea Bobos of Hungary in three sets.  She then went on to defeat Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria in the second round in straight sets and outlasted Anett Kontaveit of Estonia in three sets in the third round.  Her appearance in the fourth round equaled her best performance at Wimbledon, and we look forward to seeing how Caroline does during the upcoming summer hardcourt season in North America.  By the time Caroline begins the U.S. Open in late August, you can have a course or two completed toward your online high school diploma or correspondence high school diploma or be on your way to completing a full year of middle school with online middle school courses if you enroll today.
