Today’s Birthday: Rin Tin Tin

It's September 10, and on this date in 1918, the first of the dogs named Rin Tin Tin was born.  Five days after his birth, which occurred near the end of World War 1, the original Rin Tin Tin was found in a severely damaged kennel by an American soldier.  When the war end, Rin Tin Tin, who was named after a finger puppet given to American soldiers by French children, returned to the United States, where he learned tricks and developed an ability to leap higher than most dogs.  Those skills caused Hollywood to take notice, and soon, Rin Tin Tin was a movie star.  The German Shephed received autograph requests, which he signed with his paw, and was even nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award in 1929.  After a long life, the original Rin Tin Tin died in 1932 and was returned to his native France for burial.  Since then, other dogs have played Rin Tin Tin in various movies and television shows, doing their part to ensure that Rin Tin Tin remains among the most famous acting animals of all-time.  If you want to learn how to draw dogs like Rin Tin Tin and other animals, consider taking our Art: Drawing Animals course.  You never know: the animals you draw might become movie stars themselves someday!
