It's February 4, and Rosa Parks was born on this date in 1913. In 1955, she famously refused to give up her seat on a city bus in segregated Montgomery, Alabama, and in doing so became one of the faces of the Civil Rights Movement. Today that bus is on display at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Many times this blog has talked about visiting museums or presidential libraries as a way to make history come alive, and visiting museums with exhibits such as Rosa Parks' bus or other Civil Rights Movement memorabilia is especially appropriate during African-American History month, which began Sunday and goes through the entire month of February.
