Today the American School is holding its 74th annual scholarship meeting. Each year, our scholarship committee selects three graduates to receive $2000 scholarships and 15 other graduates to receive $1000 awards. As usual, the selection committee had its work cut out for it. This year's applicants ranged in age from 15 to 23. More than a third of them had a perfect 4.0 GPA, and the average GPA of the group was 3.87. Popular hobbies of this year's applicants included reading, cake decorating, rock climbing, hiking, horse training, and playing the piano, guitar or flute, and they lived in 21 states, from Alabama to Utah. Winners will be notified shortly and will be profiled in an upcoming issue of the All American newsletter. Since the program's inception, the American School has awarded nearly $800,000 in post-secondary scholarships to our graduates. Information on entering next year's scholarship competition will be available later this year or in early 2013.
