American School graduate Anna Tatishvili kicked off her 2014 Grand Slam season with a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Monica Puig of Puerto Rico in the first round of the Australian Open. Although Anna lost in the first round, she was not winless Down Under. In fact, she won three three-set qualifying matches to advance to the main draw of the tournament. First, she defeated Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Next, she beat Ekaterina Bychkova of Russia, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4. Finally, she triumphed over Risa Osaki of Japan, 6-7, 7-5, 6-2. We hope that those three grueling victories serve as a springboard to a successful season for her.
