Yesterday we held our 76th annual scholarship meeting, and before we notify the winners, we thought you'd be interested in knowing some interesting facts about this year's finalists and the scholarship program itself. Among the 30 finalists we had 20 females and 10 males. Their ages ranged from 15 to 35, and their average GPA was 3.71. Four finalists had perfect 4.0 GPAs. The finalists resided in 19 different states and three foreign countries: Germany, England and France. Illinois and Maryland produced the most finalists with four apiece. Hobbies included ice dancing, crocheting, marksmanship, ballroom dancing, coin collecting, stamp collecting, vegetarianism, reading, singing, dancing, photography, cooking, gardening, writing, playing musical instruments and exercising. Notable career plans include becoming a behavioral neurologist, surface warfare officer in the Navy, doctor of osteopathy, EPA agent, international pediatric neurosurgeon, teacher, coach, athletic trainer, film producer, dermatologist, industrial engineer, project manager, musician or dentist. As you can see, this year's finalists were a talented and diverse group. We are proud to count some of them among the 1,462 graduates who have received $802,200 in scholarships during the past 76 years. We'll have more information about our winners in the weeks to come.
