It's August 1, and on this date in 1981, MTV premiered on cable systems across the country. Today, MTV airs a lot of music-themed reality programs, but 31 years ago, it aired music videos almost exclusively. The idea behind music videos was to allow viewers and listeners the opportunity to see and hear their favorite songs and performers in an entirely new and different way, and the response from the audience was overwhelmingly positive. Musicians aren't the only ones who use video to their advantage. Many schools use video instruction as a means of engaging and teaching their students. The American School's Online Student Center has a section devoted to video descriptions of careers. You'll see a variety of careers in action and see for yourself what certain professionals do. We hope you visit this part of the Online Student Center and find a career that appeals to you and your talents.
