It’s August 3, and on this date in 1527, the first letter was sent from North America. It was sent by John Rut while he was stationed in St. John’s, Newfoundland in Canada, and the lucky recipient was King Henry VIII back home in England. We don’t know how long it took that letter to arrive to its final destination, but we’re guessing it’s longer than the time it takes for today’s mail to be delivered. Mail has been a big part of our existence for 126 years now since we primarily offered only high school correspondence courses for most of that time. These days we also offer middle school correspondence courses, but whether students work toward an online high school diploma or a correspondence high school diploma, sometimes it is necessary for traditional mail to be sent back and forth from our office to their homes. Whenever mail is sent back and forth, it is important to address envelopes clearly and put the correct amount of postage on the envelope or parcel. We do our best to do that and we ask you to do the same. Doing so will help ensure speedy delivery no matter where you live, and we appreciate your cooperation and the opportunity to serve you.
