It's May 31, and the finals of the National Spelling Bee air on live television tonight. Over the years, homeschooled students have done well in this competition, but this year, a certain homeschooled contestant made news not because of the word she spelled (which was dirigible) but because of her age. Lori Ann Madison is just six years old and is believed to be the youngest participant in the history of the bee. We hope she'll be one of our students a few years from now. Earlier this week the National Geographic Bee aired on many public television stations, and tomorrow night the National History Bee is scheduled to air. It's not unusual for homeschooled students to do well in these competitions too.
