Today’s Anniversary: The 19th Amendment

It's August 26, and 100 years ago today, the 19th amendment to the United States Constitution was officially adopted.  This important amendment gave women the right to vote.  It might seem hard to believe that American School existed for 23 years before women held this fundamental right, but you should not be surprised to learn that we have never discriminated against any student.  Some of our earliest students were those who were among the marginalized and could not attend traditional school because they needed to have full-time jobs to support their families.  Today we continue to serve any student regardless of race, gender, ethnic background, creed or physical location, and we will not amend or change that policy in any way.  If you wish to earn a high school diploma at home or are looking for independent study high school programs or an accredited middle school program, we would be happy to serve you.  Make us your distance education high school or middle school and enroll today!

2020 Convention #16: ASCA Conference (Cancelled)

This weekend American School was looking forward to exhibiting at the American School Counselor Association Annual Conference in Seattle.  Unfortunately but understandably the event was cancelled.  Had we attended in person, we would have had information about our independent study high school program which helps students at traditional schools graduate on time with their classes.  Some take high school correspondence courses for credit recovery or enrichment, while others prefer online high school courses.  We know that students learn differently, so we have both options available.  Our independent study high school programs can be a cost-effective replacement for summer school programs as well.  The ASCA Conference is one of the biggest events of the year, and we look forward to meeting school counselors from across the country when we return to the convention in person next year.

Today’s Anniversary: Minnesota

It's May 11, and Minnesota became a state on this date in 1858.  To our knowledge, we've only visited Minnesota for a convention on one occasion.  That was in 2012 for a counselors convention at which we promoted our independent study high school programs, but we hope to return to Minnesota for another event in the near future.  Minnesota is perhaps best-known for its 10,000 lakes and its Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.  Here at American School, we have twin high school diploma programs.  The first is a general high school program geared for people who plan to attend community college or join the workforce shortly after graduating.  The second is a college preparatory program geared for people who plan to attend a four-year college or university shortly after graduating.  No matter how you choose to earn a high school diploma at home, we have the program for you and would love to serve you.  Get started by enrolling today!

Today’s Anniversary: Louisiana

It's April 30, and Louisiana became a state on this date in 1812.  We've attended many conventions in Louisiana over the years, most of which have been for principals, counselors and other school officials.  When we attend those types of conventions, we feature our independent study high school programs and to a lesser extent our print and online high school diploma program.  Many school officials look for a place like American School which offers accredited courses at an affordable cost.  Their students might need only a course or two to graduate on time, but others might need to earn a high school diploma at home for a variety of reasons.  That's where our diploma programs come into play.  We are happy to serve residents of the Pelican State, and we'd be happy to serve you wherever you live as well.  Enroll today!

Today’s Anniversary: The Walt Disney Company

It's October 16, and the Walt Disney Company was founded on this date in 1923.  If you've ever been to a Disney park, you've probably experienced exceptional customer service and felt like park employees (often referred to as cast members) went out of their way to make you have a wonderful day.  Here at American School, we want you to have a similar experience.  If you have questions about your general high school or college preparatory program, our independent study high school programs or our print or online middle school courses, let us know.  We'll take our time, listen to your concerns, and then try to come up with a solution that solves your problems.  Sometimes we won't be able to give you exactly what you want because we must follow a variety of policies, but we will do our best to give you excellent service as you work toward completing your courses.  Take the first step and enroll today!

Today’s Anniversary: Baltimore

It's July 30, and the city of Baltimore was founded on this date in 1729.  If you're a regular reader of this blog, you know that we highlight the conventions and cities we visit throughout the year.  In fact, the Southeast Homeschool Expo in Atlanta that we attended last weekend was our 20th convention of 2019.  The month of August is convention-free for us, but we are already planning our 2020 convention schedule, and one of the cities we'll be visiting is Baltimore.  Some conventions are geared for homeschoolers and those who want to earn a high school diploma at home, and we promote our print or online high school diploma program at those events.  Other conventions are geared for counselors or teachers, and usually we promote our independent study high school programs at those conventions.  We look forward to visiting Baltimore and hopefully a city near you in 2020, but we have a few more shows to attend in 2019, starting in September.  Stay tuned to learn where we are headed next, and check back Thursday for our latest blog entry.

2019 Convention #8: ISCA Bloomington Conference

Last week we attended the Illinois School Counselor Assocation Conference in the Chicago suburbs, but this week we're headed downstate for the Illinois School Counselor Association Conference in Bloomington.  We'll be at the DoubleTree in Bloomington on April 12 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Stop by table E25 to learn about our independent study high school programs featuring high school correspondence courses and online high school courses.  Even if you'd just like to say hello or pick up one of our promotional items, that's fine too.  We're looking forward to seeing counselors whose students we already serve and introducing ourselves to new ones.  Although we serve students and schools in all 50 states, we're always happy to serve students and schools in the Land of Lincoln, and attending ISCA Conferences is one way we do that.  We look forward to seeing you there!

2019 Convention #6: ISCA Rosemont Conference

Just like last week, we're attending two conventions this week.  The first is the Illinois School Counselor Association Conference in Rosemont.  We'll be in booth 40 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center on April 4 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. to visit with counselors from around Chicagoland.  Many schools take advantage of our independent study high school programs which are perfect for credit recovery.  Others might be interested in our print or online high school diploma program which is perfect for the potential dropout.  Either way, we're happy to serve these counselors and their students with our accredited high school courses online or in print.  We always enjoy visiting with counselors who use us, but we particularly enjoy visiting with those counselors whose schools are close by our office.  If you're planning on attending the ISCA Conference in Rosemont, stop by and say hello.  We'd love to renew acquaintances or introduce ourselves to you!

2019 Convention #1: WSCA Conference

It's February 4, and tomorrow we kick off our 2019 convention season with a trip to the Wisconsin School Counselor Association Conference in Madison.  Guests are invited to visit us at table 38 at the Monona Terrace on February 5 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., February 6 from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and February 7 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.  At the WSCA Conference we'll have information about high school independent study courses that students may take as part of one of the leading independent study high school programs anywhere in the world.  We hope to reconnect with counselors who already use our services as well as meet new ones who might be interested in having the American School help their students graduate from high school.  We'll also bring along some details about our accredited middle school program in case counselors who serve students in grades 6-8 attend the show too.  We've enjoyed attending the WSCA Conference for many years running, and we're looking forward to another great event in the Badger State this year.  Come join us!

Today’s Anniversary: The Price is Right

It's September 4, and The Price is Right premiered on this date in 1972.  Longtime blog readers might remember that we did a whole week of blogs related to the show in 2007 when longtime host Bob Barker retired, but today's blog won't be a Cliff Hanger.  We'll get straight to the point and tell you that, whether you want to enroll in a print or online high school diploma program, accredited middle school program or one of our independent study high school programs, our price is right!  We keep costs to an absolute minimum, and our tuition always includes all study materials, grading, access to the online student center and more.  Other distance education high schools might seem to have cheaper prices, but they often charge for courses by semester, ask you to pay for study materials and do not include other services in their fees.  When you combine our outstanding curriculum with our affordable prices, we believe we're the best option for you.  Enroll today!
