Accreditation
American School was the first distance learning school to receive regional accreditation. Today American School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS), Accreditation International (Ai) and the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA). American School is also recognized as a non-public secondary school by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
MIDDLE STATES ASSOCIATION COMMISSIONS ON ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS) accredits early-childhood through post-secondary, non-degree granting public, private, faith-based educational institutions including special purpose schools, supplementary education centers, learning services providers, and distance education institutions.
ACCREDITATION INTERNATIONAL AND THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR PRIVATE SCHOOL ACCREDITATION
Accreditation by Accreditation International (Ai) and the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA) means that the American School has met standards for:
- defining appropriate educational goals and providing educational programs to achieve them;
- maintaining a qualified faculty and an effective school organization;
- assessing outcomes of school experiences and controlling the quality of educational programs;
- responding to the concerns of parents and needs of the school community;
- providing for the continuity of its programs and planning for their future;
- describing with accuracy the content of its services and programs;
- developing plans and activities for continuous school improvement

ILLINOIS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION
American School is also recognized as a non-public secondary school by the Illinois State Board of Education. We are proud to have held this distinction since 1978, when we became the first home-study school to be recognized in this way.
BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU
Our 90-year affiliation with the Better Business Bureau of Chicago and Northern Illinois demonstrates our consistent efforts to give students and schools the best service we can, as well. Our A+ grade is the highest a business can receive under the BBB’s new rating system, which replaces the previous ‘satisfactory’ or ‘unsatisfactory’ rating. Letter grades are calculated by computer using a ratings formula that takes into account 17 weighted factors, the largest single factor being the company’s overall complaint history with the BBB.
