American School to Attend WSCA Conference

American School will exhibit at the WSCA Conference from February 21-23 in Madison, Wisconsin.  We will be at table 7 in the Grand Terrace at the Hilton Monona Terrace from 4- 6 p.m. on February 21; from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on February 22; and from 8-11 a.m. on February 23.  We're excited to meet school counselors from our neighbors to the north and will be promoting our independent study high school programs and accredited middle school program.  Counselors use our independent study high school courses and middle school courses for credit recovery or enrichment.  If a student needs one course to advance to the next grade or graduate, we'd be happy to assist him or her, and these conferences help us serve more students.  Check back very soon to learn where else we're headed in February!

Ryan Hartman Nets Game-Winning Goal

Former American School student Ryan Hartman scored the game-winning goal last night as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the San Jose Sharks in NHL action.  Ryan took courses as part of our independent study high school program, and we're happy to make individual online high school courses, high school correspondence courses and online middle school courses available to anyone who might need them.  All of our students, whether they take individual courses or a whole package of courses in our accredited high school program or accredited middle school program, get the same quality curriculum and friendly customer service.  We're happy to help you reach all of your goals, on or off the icet!  Enroll today!

Today’s Special Occasion: St. Nicholas Day

It's December 6, and people around the world are celebrating St. Nicholas Day.  No matter what your religious affiliation is, we thought you'd be interested in learning more about the man who long has been considered the inspiration for Santa Claus and who is the reason why your shoes might be filled with presents this morning.  Having you enrolled in our accredited high school program, accredited middle school program, independent study high school or independent study middle school is a great gift to us, and we value each of you.  Unlike other schools, we do not take extended periods of time off during the holiday season.  In fact, we'll be here for most of the days and weeks around the holidays.  You'll find out the specifics when we post our holiday schedule soon!

Today’s Birthday: Mark Twain

It's November 30, and Mark Twain was born on this date in 1835.  He died 75 years later in 1910, and Halley's Comet passed by earth within days of his entrance into the world and his exit from it.  You probably know that Mark Twain wasn't his real name (Samuel Clemens was) and that he introduced us to characters like Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer among others.  You can read Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court after you enroll in our Literature 3: Selected American Classics course.  It's one of several high school correspondence courses that students take while they work to earn a high school diploma at home or are enrolled in our independent study high school program.  If you want to learn more about Mark Twain, a visit to the Mark Twain Museum in Hannibal, Missouri is a great place to start.  The town of Hannibal itself has Mark Twain sites throughout and sits roughly halfway between Chicago and St. Louis.  It's a great opportunity to enhance your American School experience, as are visits to museums and historic sites dedicated to other authors who are in our curriculum.

American School To Attend ISCA Fall Conference

American School is back on the road this week, and we're making our first convention appearance of November at the Indiana School Counselor Association Fall Conference on November 3-4 in Indianapolis.  We'll be at table 37 at the Indianapolis Marriott East on November 3 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on November 4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. showcasing our independent study high school program.  We're also excited to tell counselors about our new online middle school courses which have proven to be a great complement to our accredited online high school courses and high school correspondence courses that we've offered for years.  We're grateful to have a great working relationship with counselors from our neighbor to the east and we look forward to seeing them this week!

American School Resumes Phone Calls to Prospective Students

American School is pleased to announce the return of phone calls to prospective students.  These students are interested in our online high school courses or high school correspondence courses and indicate they would like a call from us when they fill out a form to request more information or view an enrollment application.  We are happy to talk with them or their parents and tell them more about our general high school program, college preparatory program, independent study high school and more.  Please note that only prospective students should fill out these forms and request an initial call from us.  If you are a past or present student, you do not need to fill out these forms or request a call.  You can contact us through the email addresses listed on our web site and in the online student center.  Thank you for allowing us to be of service to you!

Revised Introduction to Business Course Available

This week American School released a revised Introduction to Business course.  The course is available individually as part of an independent study high school program or may be taken as part of a general high school or college preparatory program en route to an American School diploma.  We're pleased to offer elective courses such as Introduction to Business as part of our paper-based and online high school courses, and would be happy to have you as our student!

Today’s Anniversary: The American School Blogger

It's September 15, and on this date in 1998, the person who would become the American School Blogger started working at American School.  Obviously a lot has changed in nearly two decades.  Back in 1998, American School was strictly focused on high school correspondence courses that students could take as part of an accredited high school program or individually as part of an independent study high school.  We still offer students the opportunity to earn a correspondence high school diploma, and that will never change, but one of the biggest changes in the last 18 years is that we offer online high school courses and online middle school courses.  Those have been so important to our students in recent years, as have our other online services such as the online student center, our Facebook and Twitter pages and this very blog.  Looking toward the future, American School will continue to adapt and offer more courses and services to students.  You'll see some of them shortly and some of them in 2017 and beyond.  We're proud of our past but excited for our future, and we're grateful you've chosen to read this blog and make us your distance education high school and middle school.

American School Releases New Drawing Landscapes Course

Summer is winding down, and perhaps you've taken a few trips to the beach or your favorite national park.  Fall is approaching, and perhaps you're looking forward to trees changing colors.  If you like the outdoors and its spectacular scenery and also like to draw, consider taking our brand new Drawing Landscapes course.  It's the perfect addition to your accredited high school program or may be taken individually for enrichment or as part of our independent study high school program.  Enroll today and you could be one step closer to graduating by the time the landscapes become snow-covered this winter!

American School to Attend ASCA Conference

American School is pleased to attend the ASCA Conference from July 9-11 in New Orleans.  We'll be in booth 409 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center to meet with members of the American School Counselor Association on July 9 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.; July 10 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; and on July 11 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.  Counselors will be excited to hear about our new online middle school courses and accredited middle school program.  They'll also be happy to learn how our high school correspondence courses and online high school courses can be taken for credit recovery or enrichment through our independent study high school program.  We are grateful for all the school counselors who already work with us and hope our trip to New Orleans will be beneficial to additional school counselors and students.
