It’s April 28, and Maryland became a state on this date in 1788. Before it became a state, Maryland was a colony founded by a man named George Calvert. He was a Catholic and wanted to establish a colony where fellow Catholics could live and be free of religious persecution. We mention that because American School welcomes students of all religious backgrounds. No matter their faith, students are welcome to enroll in our accredited middle school program, accredited high school program or independent study high school program and work on classes from home. Our courses are secular, and we do not endorse one religion over another. Families are welcome to use their religions as a guide, and we do allow for some exceptions to course topics on religious grounds as long as state standards are not compromised in the process. Thank you for understanding and for making us your school of choice!
