It’s April 12, and author Beverly Cleary was born on this date in 1916. You may have heard about her last year because she died in March 2021 at age 104, but she left behind a legacy of children’s and young adult books. Perhaps you, your siblings or even your parents are familiar with Ramona and Beezus Quimby, Henry Huggins or Ralph S. Mouse, and if you are, then you’re familiar with Beverly Cleary because she created those characters and wrote about them in many of her works. You’ll be asked to read different books as part of your accredited middle school program or accredited high school program with American School, but you should also read for fun too. Works by Beverly Cleary or your favorite authors might be great choices for you and will probably serve you well as you take more advanced middle school courses or high school courses with us.
