It’s May 6, and on this date in 1954, Roger Bannister ran a mile in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds. It was the first time anyone finished that distance in less than 4 minutes. Although many others have run a mile more quickly than Roger Bannister’s time 70 years ago today, running a sub-4-minute mile remains one of the greatest accomplishments in track and field history. This anniversary got us thinking about pacing. Any distance runner knows that pace is important, and the best distance runners run at a pace that maximizes their performance. American School allows students in our accredited middle school program, accredited high school program or independent study program the ability to work at their own pace to maximize their performance too. Some students might work quickly in one subject but more slowly in another, and that is perfectly fine with us. Our staff is here to assist students every step of the way if help is requested. There’s no time like the present to get started so enroll today!
