It’s July 23, and the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics takes place today in Tokyo. At least two American School graduates have competed in the Summer Olympics, and we’d like to tell you about them in today’s blog. You might know Andre Agassi best as one of only five men to have won all four Grand Slam tennis tournaments–the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open–at least once, but in 1996 he added an Olympic gold medal to his trophy case. Katie Hoff, meanwhile, is a champion swimmer who competed in the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics, where she earned a silver medal in the 400 meter freestyle and bronze medals in the 400 meter individual medley and the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay. We are proud of Andre and Katie and any other American School student who has competed in the Olympics. It’s not uncommon for athletes to make American School their distance education high school because our paper-based high school courses and online high school courses can be studied anywhere in the world, perhaps even in Tokyo! If you’re ready to go for the gold and earn a high school diploma at home, we invite you to enroll today. You’ll have your first course by the time the Olympics conclude in two weeks.
