It’s March 7, and tomorrow is International Women’s Day.  Since we are closed on Saturday we are celebrating a day early.  Women have had major roles in American School’s 128-year history.  We think of our current president, Valerie Riley, who became the first woman to hold that title when she took office in 2017, but there are countless others who have had major impacts on students’ lives over the years.  Several of them, including Mary McKeown and Roberta Allen, held administrative roles and wrote study guides for our high school correspondence courses.  Others performed tasks such as answering telephones, replying to emails, processing enrollment applications, handling financial matters, grading exams in paper-based middle school courses or paper-based high school courses, or setting up online middle school courses and online high school courses, just to name a few.  We couldn’t provide the caring student service without these women, some of whom have dedicated their whole adult lives to serving our students.  We appreciate them on International Women’s Day and every other day of the year as well.
