Using a variety of poems, short stories, novel excerpts, and non-fiction prose by authors from different times and cultural backgrounds, this course introduces students to excellent writing. It helps them become familiar with basic literary devices and how they are used in the works under discussion. This course also includes an Extended Writing Project and an Extended Reading Project. Students are given choices for a novel to read and analyze, but are required to acquire their choice on their own. This full credit course has eight parts and eight exams.
