Singer and actress Olivia Newton-John passed away yesterday at age 73, leaving behind a legacy of entertainment and courage as she fought cancer for decades. Longtime readers of this blog may recall that sometimes we pay tribute to famous singers on their birthdays by including the names of some of their songs in our blog and then tying those titles and lyrics to American School. We are going to do something similar today as a tribute to Olivia Newton-John, who is best-known for her role as Sandy in the movie Grease. The movie was about students at Rydell High School, and while we can only assume they were not part of our independent study high school program, songs from the movie and some of Olivia’s other hits definitely connect to American School. Because we allow students to enroll year-round and study when and where it is convenient for them, our students can work on their online high school courses or high school correspondence courses during warm “Summer Nights” or any other time or season of the year. Because we offer hundreds of accredited high school courses in a wide variety of subject areas, students will have no problem saying “You’re the One That I Want” and enrolling in one or more courses, unless that course is “Physical” Education because we are unable to offer that subject. Along the way students will experience caring student service and outstanding instruction from a staff that is “Hopelessly Devoted to You” because all of us want to see you succeed. Success might not be like “Magic” and come overnight, but we encourage our students to always do their best and keep working to earn a high school diploma at home. Once they have their accredited high school diploma in hand, they’ll be in a place even better than “Xanadu” as an American School graduate!
