It’s March 21, and on this date in 1963, the Alcaraz Federal Penitentiary closed. Today this facility is a museum in San Francisco, but its closing got us thinking about how American School might serve prisoners today. Sometimes we receive communication from prison inmates or family members asking about our accredited high school program. Our reply is that prison inmates should check with a warden or other prison official to determine what the prison’s educational policies are. Most prisons will not allow inmates to take online high school courses, but many prisons will allow inmates to take paper-based high school courses usually with covers of hardcover books removed. If you or a loved one need this kind of service, please let us know. We will try to help as best we can.
