It’s December 7, and Delaware became a state on this date in 1787. This is noteworthy because Delaware was the first state in the United States, and that fact got us thinking about other firsts. American School was the first home study school to be recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education. That happened in 1978, and we are proud and grateful that the ISBE still recognizes us as a non-public school to this day. One reason they recognize us is the quality of our middle school courses and high school courses. Homeschooling families may take them collectively as part of full years in our accredited middle school program or accredited high school program. Students who attend a traditional school may take them for credit recovery or enrichment through our independent study program. Whatever your reason for taking our courses, and whether you’re the first one in your family to study with American School or are a second or third generation American School student, we would be happy to serve you.
